With it being International break time, the top 2 Divisions are on a break. I always have a tab for Sky Sports Football open on my phone, so when I was checking the International results & L1,L2 & Conference, I noticed that the headlines were about Women’s football. Personally, I know nothing about the teams, other than what the headlines say, I don’t watch the games, I really don’t watch the PL much, unless I’m somewhere, where it’s on a TV, however, I will keep tabs on the results & players etc. So this just got me wondering, as I have as much interest in that, as I do in the Maltese football league, no idea if they even have one, how popular is Women’s Football?
My Mrs is an ex pro women's footballer so have to watch quite alot, it's the most frustrating sport in the world in my opinion. I know I shouldn't but I can't help but compare it to men's football and it's miles away! There is some moments of brilliance but it's rare very rare! It's come on leaps and bounds over last few seasons though and it'll keep going that way hopefully
It's got some distance to go before it reaches the level of professionalism displayed by other girly sports such as hot-oil wrestling and foxy boxing.
It's got much better over the last few years but it's still not a great watch. As another poster said the goalkeepers are atrocious. It's not just the size of the goals either. Their whole technique just seems completely at odds with what you'd expect from a keeper.
I struggle with club football because I don't really feel connected to any of the clubs - would support City I guess but unless you go to the games difficult to follow. International football I enjoy watching though and I think the quality is good considering how much the game has been held back over the years. I went to the World Cup in France a couple of years ago to see England v Japan and it was a good game.
It might not be great quality when compared to the upper levels of the men's game but neither is non-league. So what? Watching City is frustrating most of the time considering we can barely string a few passes together without someone passing it into touch. I think there's a strange double standard that when it comes to women's football everyone wants to scrutinise the standard, but in the men's game it's basically a badge of honour to support the ****test team possible.
It’s pretty good, it’s still football news I can’t have a go at the standard when I’ll happily go and watch Ferriby or Scarborough. I hope it keeps improving.
Was going to watch a game at the weekend. But it wasn’t a strong enough pull to drag me away from The Railway Children.
I don't disagree with your points, but I think the issue is that unlike the non-league etc you mention, women's football is being promoted on Sky and in other places above the male professional leagues.

I think women’s football is being promoted to a younger female audience that’s growing as more play I watched the last World Cup and whilst enjoyable for the lack of histrionics , cheating answering back etc. The problem is the football is one pace , really well skilled at the higher level teams but the lack of dynamic pace , acceleration and proper aggression makes it dare I say a bit bland . The skill levels are really decent and it can be impressive . Not being patronising but just recognising the difference physically between men and women
