And even worse is that average is heavily propped up by one score of 78. Exactly 25% of his runs from that one innings. Dreadful.
If Organ is to be in the team then surely he could rekindle his partnership with Holland. Can't be any worse than Weatherley, Tom Alsop used to open too when he started hic career IIRC
I don't know. Organ seems to have finally found a nice little role for himself at no.7 or no.8. I'd prefer not to mess him around by moving him from there. Plus, I think we be should be setting our ambitions a bit higher than "can't be any worse than Weatherley". That's a pretty low bar. Missing out to Warks on Alex Davies (both as an opener and a keeper) was such a blow.
Oh I agree, I was just thinking for the rest of this season. Where does Donald usually bat? could he do a job at the top of the order?
I would hazard a guess that he's batted at no.5 more than anywhere else in career. But outside that, he's probably more suited to no.6 than the top 4. So if Vince wants to remain at no.5, then the obvious move I would suggest is Donald at no.6 and Dawson at no.7 - with McManus either dropping out entirely (hopefully!), or getting thrown into the top three in place of Weatherley.
The guy who probably has the most experience as an opener in our squad, outside the current two, is Gubbins. But he's showing early promise at no.4 as Northeast's direct replacement. So a bit like Organ, I'd rather not start messing him around. Trying to plus holes by moving people around just creates other holes - and if the original holes aren't successfully plugged in doing so, you're batting line-up is left resembling a colander.
Shocking way to get out, Gubbins. Rubbish ball, rubbish shot. It was there to hit, but not like that.
Weatherley does have the feeling of being undroppable and he is well in the Hampshire hierarchy judging by the amount that he is involved with discussing tactics on the field with Vince and Abbott. He's not going out with another one of Uncle Rod's daughters like Woody is he?
Huge partnership, this. I've been saying for a while now that Dawson is in absolutely no form with the bat right now (thanks England, for denying him any cricket for about a month and taking away any sort of rhythm). And whilst Organ, Fuller and Barker can all bat, you can't rely on them. And as I type, FFS.
This is just undisciplined batting and not considering the match position, Holland should've been looking to bat through to lunch without alarms.
I love the fact that despite the seamers reducing Gloucs to 47-7, there was still scope for Harmer to get three wickets. Best bowler in county cricket.
A shot of someone who is in absolutely no form at all. Rhodes is a nothing bowler, and we're making him look good.
