Hameed gone for a duck <doh>

Looks like that opening partnership last test was a blip and back to normal England again.

Opening bat failure again. England have no opening batsmen, not ones that can actually do a job anyway, same result whichever two you put in together. Over to Root again for the usual salvage job. Thought Hameed might turn out to be something but seems like he's learned how to bat properly from the other useless wafters now <laugh>

He just doesn’t ever look comfortable. Even when he’s scored runs, looks like he’s never held a bat before. Some weird movements, weird bat angle and looking over his own shoulder. Surely can’t be best way to work out what line the ball is going

Yeah his technique is extremely, odd, and clearly doesn't work, if it did it might excuse the unorthodoxy and jiterriness of it all.

Malan and Root building a decentish partnership here, let's see how long they can both stick around.

<laugh> Root bowled as I type

Possible defeat from the jaws of (very probable) victory comes to mind.

21 from Root is completely excusable, especially given his innings and performance in the previous matches where he's essentially been the only one providing any substance batting (with a couple of other exceptions). Problem is he's not going to do that every match and can't be expected to, so the top order has to deliver, which they haven't at any point in this series, and outside Root they're reliant on someone, anyone, from the middle order randomly also getting a score.

Imo burns is trying extremely had to get side on to the point he is totally unnatural.

I thought itd be a very awkward evening when that final wicket fell

This game is now headed for a result either way with a lead unlikely for england

You just never know with test cricket mate. Any of the top 6/7 are capable of a biggish score and India were only 185 all out (should have been less). We don't need a huge score to overtake them

Given we are 3 down and nobody but root would be someone to put 50 quid on for a top score it seems a bit of a problem as of now.

It depends on attitude. there has to be some positivity but i think they will put the heavy roller across the pitch and after that lets see if the conditions help batting or not.

Didn’t expect Overton to last long. Sort of did his job not getting out last night. Would have been nice if could have got a little 20 or something though.

Bairstow Ali woakes still to come. Still plenty of batting potential there

One of these two has to make a good score. It's about time for Bairstow <ok>

Bairstow and Pope have steadied the ship somewhat. Ali and Woakes still to come in means we should get a lead....
