1 – Illan Meslier 2- Luke Ayling 3 – Junior Firpo 4 – Adam Forshaw 5 – Robin Koch 6 – Liam Cooper 9 – Patrick Bamford 10 – Raphinha 11 – Tyler Roberts 13 – Kristoffer Klaesson 14 – Diego Llorente 15 – Stuart Dallas 19 – Rodrigo 20 – Dan James 21 – Pascal Struijk 22 – Jack Harrison 23 – Kalvin Phillips 30 - Joe Gelhardt 35 - Charlie Cresswell 37 - Cody Drameh 38 - Crysencio Summerville 42 - Sam Greenwood 43 - Matt Klich 45 - Liam McCarron 46 - Jamie Shackleton
Drameh has shirt number 37 (presume Doc just missed him out by accident), also on that list posted, there are 6 under 23 players (not 5 as stated), Klaesson, Summerville, Greenwood, McCarron, Cresswell and Gelhardt, not counting those who have played for the first team with some regularity, so we actually have 7 under 23's who have been given shirt numbers. https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/9/Leeds-United/squad In addition any player who was aged under 21 as at the 1st January of this year, can be given a squad number for the first team and play at any stage of this season. So by my reckoning, we have an officially registered squad of 18 players (for some reason Lauren De Bock is included, don't know if this is an error or for some other purpose), together with 8 players who don't need to be registered as part of the squad (Meslier is included within this),but have been issued shirt numbers. In theory we can still register another 7 players over 23 to the first team squad, although as the transfer window has been shut , all 7 would have to be players who are out of contract
I know it’s different now but I still remember being in school and scribbling down the players name and shirt number next to their name. 2 always a RB 11 Wide left, 7 wide right and so on… I’d still be wanting a 1-11 number if I were a professional football player, high numbers still don’t look right to me. I must admit as a kid though, I never understood why it was 5&6 and not 4&5 to both CBs
Thanks for that Aski, you’re right I missed him off, my bad, (Amended) On Klaesson he isnt specifically the U23 keeper, he was bought as Reserve keeper to Meslier. Last season Kiko played a number of U23 games to keep match sharp but Caprile was U23 keeper and this season the keeper is Van Den Heuval, but Klaesson will play from time to time.
Fair enough Doc, I was just working on the basis that an U23 player is just someone who hasn't regularly appeared at some stage for the first team, but that is just my personal definition, at the end of the day it's just semantics
Very very true. Its more like when a first. Teamer gets back to fitness or needs game time, they go into the 23s. Last season Roberts, Poveda, Rodrigo, Llorente, Koch, Berardi, Pablo, Phillips, Kiko, Costa….. all had game time for the 23s, some more than others like Poveda and Roberts.
