Smithies is said to be on £33,000 a week, so that would be a fair chunk off the wage bill which could be the objective.

Still say Smithies is a far better keeper than Phillips but Mick doesn't seem to agree. Could come back and bite us on the bum after that Phillips "should I stay or should I go" shuffle that gave Weimann that first goal on Saturday.

I've said it before - I don't rate Phillips as being a commanding keeper. Some good reaction stuff but all too often seriously lacking in confidence.

 

Smithies was the obvious one to try to get off the wage bill. Pity you there appears no interest in Bacuna

And £12m would be cheap compared to the £10m Rotherham apparently wanted for Smith.

If we were to offload Murphy then Ojo is a bit of an upgrade and maybe lower wages.

Generally on a personal level I'm quite content.
