Which strikers or playmakers are available and would actually improve us? I can't see anyone near Eriksen, Modric or Dembele standard. Players like Pjanic and Aouar are no better than what we have. No point in wasting money on the likes of them.
We could have gone for Ings for example. To again only have 1 senior striker is an issue. And to be honest I would suggest that pretty much ANYBODY would be better than Ndombele yet we appear to have decided that having nobody is better which is mystifying to me
Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Dele are absolutely not better than Pjanic. Whilst I don’t know enough about Aouar, he can’t be any worse than those lot.
Well run clubs don't sell their best players on the last day of the window. If we had any intention to upgrade our midfield or add to our strikers, we should have done it weeks ago. Levy never intended to spend beyond what we got from sales....and as nobody wants to pay real big money for Ndombele or Winks, Nuno's stuck with them. It won't change whilst Levy's still interfering. Levy out!
You should already know my views on that. There is no way of getting a lasting edge in player recruitment. We have to spend millions just to make sure we are not worse than our competitors. That's just the way it is. We've got a squad which last year was a couple of last minute goals away from being top 4 in the strongest league in the world despite being managed in a way that didn't play to our strengths. We've got Gollini instead of Hart, Romero instead of Alderweireld, Skipp instead of Sissoko, Gil instead of Lamela and Emerson. We've also got Scarlett, Sessegnon, Tanganga and Clarke who should be improving with age. It's bonkers to imagine that we can easily improve on that.
Do you not think the club desperately need another striker and a creative midfielder? The window will close with these two signings not made and leaving Spurs short again imo.
I simply don't categorise players like that. All players can play in a variety of positions. A new 'striker' costing about £40m will never play if Son and Kane are fit and probably won't be better than Bergwijn, Lucas or Dele. As for creative midfielders, they need to be better than Ndombele, Lo Celso and Dele and we already know that paying £50m doesn't guarantee that. Gil looks like he is being tried in that role so let's give him a chance.
A goalkeeper can play as a striker, it doesn’t mean they’ll be any good at it. We need a specialised striker to deputise/ compete/ play alongside Kane. We also need a creative midfielder. The fees are irrelevant, if a £40m-£50m one turns out to be **** it doesn’t mean a £10m or a £20m one will. Our issue when spending big is that we haven’t gone for proven talent, we’ve gone for those we hope will become £50m players but neither Ndombele or Lo Celso have done so which has resulted in them being massive flops. Getting in a proven player like Pjanic would’ve almost certainly guaranteed an improvement on those two, Dele and captain crab.
Bergwijn and Dele can’t be classed as strikers regardless how you categorise players. As for being better than Lo Celso, NDombele and Dele, I don’t think you need to spend £50million to find better.
I actually think that Alli could play as a striker, given enough time playing in the role. His positional sense, finishing, aerial ability, strength, ability to hold up the ball and stamina suggest it. It won't happen, though. Espirito Santo's playing him even deeper than he normally plays.
Panic can't even get a free transfer back to the club who sold him. Massive red flag. It's quite possible that a 20m player might be better than Winks but so might White, Devine or John. I simply don't see the point of buying at that level.
Dele’s barely played decently as a midfielder in the last few seasons so I can’t see him thriving up front. Why not get rid and get in a proper striker instead of forcing square pegs in round holes
I didn't say they were 'strikers'. I said they would be better than a random £40m striker. A front four of Dele, Gil, Lucas and Bergwijn would be more likely to score goals than a four with one of those missing and the sort of 'striker' we have bought in over the past ten years.
Because Juventus aren’t financially strong enough to get him back, they’ve just agreed to let the joint best player in the world leave because their finances needed him off the books. So that red flag can be pulled down. White, Devine and John are all years away from being ready to play a considerate amount of first team football. We need a proven player in now.
I disagree, I’d rather have a Llorente or Vinicius than see Lucas, Bergwijn or Dele play as the focal point.
I don't think that he's one of the players that we should be looking to move on. He's started the campaign well in his new role and he's working his arse off on the pitch. His miss against Watford was poor, but if he keeps getting into those positions, then he'll start scoring. I do agree that we need a striker, though. I'd even take someone like Mandzukic, who's 35. Kane can't play every game, it's too soon for Scarlett and everyone else is a square peg, basically.
