An old ex Coldstream Guardsman told me a story about that war. The Coldstreams were relieved from the frontline by a unit of Seaforth Highlanders. 24 hours later all the Seaforths were dead; killed by “friendly” - ie Yank - fire.

 

Worse things happen at sea I suppose.
