Not impressed with Dion Dublin this morning on Football Focus, no mention of any of Norwich's new signings, seems to think we still have the same squad from last time, bar Emi, refered to us still having Pukki & Cantwell, but never mentioned anyone such as Gilmour, Tzolis, Rashica, etc. Needs to get up to date on the current squad, we've spent approx. £50m strengthening the squad ready for the prem this season

    Buendia starts for Villa
Godfrey not even on subs bench for Everton
Armstrong had already scored for Southampton away at Everton

But for all of that both Villa and Southampton are losing 3-1.

I think this analysis was posted before but it's worth another read as Saturday's daunting task looms:

    https://saturdays.substack.com/p/norwichs-surprisingly-strong-statement

Our good play against Liverpool was overshadowed by the 3 goals, but the excellent performances by Rashica, Gilmour and Lees-Melou bodes well as they gel into Farkeball. The question whether Sargent should start on Saturday is one DF may be pondering. Our excellent progressing of the ball too often floundered when the goal was nigh.

Sargent is fully match fit having had a full pre-season and two league matches for Bremen and his all action play on both sides of the ball could be a surprise factor for Citeh. We have little to lose.

Interesting objective tactical analysis of Aarons:

    https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/max-aarons-norwich-city-england/

Paddy's take on Gilmour is also interesting, if a little less informative:

    https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...el-farke-chelsea-billy-gilmour-praise-8267004

DF's response to the TalkSport sh*the and other national media response is also interesting:

“If someone talks about us and hasn't done the research it doesn't really matter,” he said. “I'm not over the moon if someone praises us who doesn’t know what we are doing and the same applies the other way around. If someone says we don’t have the right to play in Premier League, I say 97 points last season to win the Championship. I want to see which team has done this before who didn’t deserve it. We didn't win our place in the lottery. We have worked unbelievably hard. With all respect to every other club but if a self funded club, on this level, is able to win the title with 97 points, cutting the Championship to pieces and with no external money, then no-one earns the right more than us. This club has probably earned more money in the last three and a half years then any other in western Europe, and is still capable to play a style of football that brought the best season in our history."

No matchday thread yet but the injury update is as follows: Mumba will be sidelined until after the internation break with a dislocated knee cap, Placheta still missing, Tzolis is a doubt with a calf problem, Sargent should be available but has had a minor glute problem

However this season turns out - and luck may well play an enormous part - you have to give credit to Webber. He has delivered everything he promised to deliver, and, in theory at least, we now have a much better squad than in 2019/20 with two quality options for each position. If we manage to avoid a glut of injuries, and if teams don't score at least one deflected goal against us each match, and if VAR doesn't rule out too many of our goals, we ought to stand a reasonable chance of staying up. Fingers crossed.

Much better than waiting until January.

Farke must be pleased as punch to work with this squad and build something special.

Max is probably the only guaranteed starter

Paddy Davitt gives a useful overview of the transfer signings:

"Kabak added to a central defensive unit that comprises Hanley, Ben Gibson, Christoph Zimmermann and Andrew Omobamidele affords Farke the chance of real tactical flexibility to his base formation he could only dream about two seasons ago."

That flexibility at the back is also a feature throughout the line-up, particularly in that crucial DM role. The David Freezer video with a Norwegian commentator near the end of the article suggests that Normann is more like Skipp than Tettey, a mobile, energetic, hard tackling and cover the ground style rather than an anchor man sitting deep. The main difference seems that Normann is better with the ball than Skipp and that could make a big difference if we're playing without a CAM. If that's the case, he could improve us in both defence and attack if he, like the other new players, can successfully adjust to the PL level. That's where the coaching comes in.

Edit: Not quite true as in my twilight years as she doesn't wonder about other women, so she knows I'm probably thinking about football.

I'm happy with either a back 3 or a midfield 3, just not a 4-2-3-1 in the PL please. ;)
