Romney looks great for his age though, it has to be said. 74. Those magic pants must work!
I assume a lot of it is because incumbents have an advantage and name recognition helps.
You also know what you're getting, while new candidates can just go off on one and do what they like.
There really should be some balance in between that, though. Ancient pensioners aren't ideal.

When America joined in WW1 in 1917 the vast majority of troops transported to England didn't even know there was an ocean to cross and didn't know that Europe was a separate continent

Now they think they own the world but still know nothing about Europe, Africa or Asia

I think that plays into it at a deeper level. There's no doubt at the highest level militarily and strategically they're very good at what they do, along with manipulating foreign governments to serve their interests. But in terms of nation building or spreading freedom and democracy it's all bollox because they haven't got a fcking clue about other nations and cultures - as you say Europe, Africa or Asia. Probably throw South America into that as well.

I can't believe how lightly that **** Biden is getting away with what he has caused. If this was Trump we'd never be allowed to forget it on here.

The Americans just ****ed off in the middle of the night and done it without cooperating with over 40 of their allies. He has **** on every country that has helped them over the last 20 years. He has **** on all the Afghan folk who have helped the cause over the last 20 years. He has **** on all of the Afghan population after giving them a glimpse of what life could be like, he's deserted them and left the Taliban watching over them.

All of this has happened on Bidens watch.

Hopefully he's pissed enough of his allies off that folk start turning their back on them when they want military help in the future.

Yeah mate, fair shout. The only thing is that they are our biggest ally. I wouldn't like to think that we're relying on Europe if it came on top, because we're not big enough to take care of things by ourselves.

That will only matter if a world war breaks out and even then the yanks wouldn't be able to stop the Russians and Chinese from destroying us.

The US weren't there for us when the Luftwaffe came calling and I don't suppose it would be any different now if the Yanks didn't see anything in it for them. They don't help anybody unless they gain from it but expect us to follow them blindly into all their battles. **** them. I have always supported our supposed friendship with the US but now they can get ****ed, tbh.

    Biden is a **** I agree.

The UK hates Iran though, while I reckon we could bomb the **** out of them without much US help, I have no doubt both the UK and Israel will want the Yanks sent in to fight on the ground.

It's all selfish geopolitical interests init.

That just looks weird, to me. Why have they put the gunmen on camera? What does that achieve?
If they're just there to intimidate the host and make sure he stays on message, then they could do that from another angle.
Is it a show of strength? Seems unnecessary and poorly thought out, if it is.

It's weird. I'm sure one or two guards, at the most, would be sufficient.

I just took it as a show of strength. Not sure if it was directed towards the international community or their own people. Like you said, it is just weird.

Watching something about Alexander The Greats withdrawal from Afghanistan.

If Alexander can't get it done, I say we just leave them too it.

Some Senators stay in their role for decades. Supreme court is for life. People hop from one political office to another once they get their foot in the door.

Have to be rich to run too, no time to have a job and run for office, you must be able to go two years without any income because campaigning takes a few years (unless you're already in the office then you're being paid by the citizens to do a job, that you can mostly ignore while running to do it again).

These systems seems to be embedded to such a degree that they'll never change.

Having said that, congress seems to allow more progressive young blood in. People like Clinton, Raegan, Carter who were governors I think, Eisenhower who wasn't anything iirc except a general? Still some old men in there but at least they weren't the same tired old faces coming round and round again and again. I mean, there's talk of Trump coming back. Whether you like his politics or not, you have to think WTF what there's nobody new you can come up with.

There's always new people, but they're generally lower profile and have a harder time getting elected.
They have to run in harder seats or win primaries against established names.
That's how Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won and I'm sure you've seen the reaction to her.

The Republicans have the likes of Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor-Greene.
The former challenged someone long-standing and the latter ran for an empty seat.
