'A lot better' than the midfield players who created three goals and had their team beat in the first 20 minutes ... ... okey dokey.
I have no bad words for Scowen. He was a real grafter in our team when others werent last season. Technically he wasnt the best but he earned his spot last season. The comparison with the current midfield is difficult for him though as Evans comes from a much higher level than him and Neil and Embleton are technicians in that engine room. Wycombe have got the best of our released lads though when compared to Power.
Said exactly the same to the bloke next to me, they never troubled Patto. Looked good on the ball but we were well marshalled in defence.
Thanks. That is a long way from Carcassonne though. We were thinking closer to the Spanish border but nothing decided yet so will take a closer look
It's the delusion and insularity like this that adds to my dislike of them. I've read their forums previously and attitudes like that aren't just confined to us. Ron seems a decent bloke and passionate about his club, but I don't think he's typical of their fanbase. If they had a genuine interest in wider football and what goes on at other clubs they'd know why we don't rate Scowen that highly and released him, along with why we're critical of Wyke despite his 34 goals last year. They'd also have a better understanding of how we wound up here and what's happening to put it right, rather than being snarky about STID and our drop through the leagues. They'd actually see that the type of football and attitudes displayed by them is going to be damaging to that club in the long run. Being aware that your style won't go down well with everyone and having a bit of humility about it will give you more credit than "you're in our house, this is our rules" (Daruis Charles) or Marcus Bean's cynical season ending foul on Duncan Watmore (who'd just returned from a career threatening injury) and his half hearted twitter apology, and you just might understand why other clubs don't like you. Sooner or later things will go wrong for them, it happens to all clubs, and if you've upset too many clubs and fans you might find you don't have many friends out there among other clubs and supporters to help you out.
There was a nifty one two between Embleton and Neil before Neils run and pass to Stewart for our third. Great to watch.
It must hurt clubs like Wycombe who in reality are where they are gonna be...they might get promoted (like the season before) but will understand they will struggle. Their capacity for growth is at its max. We, on the other hand, have plenty of growing to do. Our potential is limited only by the ambition of the owners at any given time. I assume when we play clubs like Wycombe and Burton their fans can only come out with juvenile comments such as they do, as a means to get a bite...ignore them. The likes of us, Sheff Wed and Ipswich simply do not belong in this league, but here we are, lets get out asap.
It baffles me when I see fans of these clubs saying ‘they think they should still be in the Premier League’ Of course we think we should be. There’s a massive difference in where we should be and where we DESERVE to be, and due to the mismanagement of the club we absolutely deserve to be where we are now. That doesn’t change the fact we shouldn’t be here, doesn’t change the fact that we are a far bigger club than the league, and doesn’t change the fact that based on history, facilities and fan base we should be top tier. The fact they get so wound up about us just adds to that. We are a scalp. We are a team they want to have a pop at. They rarely try and actually play us at the SOL. We ain’t entitled. We don’t think we are. We’ve accepted League One for 4 seasons now and are still pulling 30k. That’s support. That’s a club that matters to people. That’s loyalty. Where we are in the current day may be merited, but it absolutely doesn’t define our club.
People say it because it's easy, takes no thought and makes them feel better about themselves. Of course a club that spent recent years in the PL, finished top half, a Wembley LC Final and had a Golden Boot should want to get back there and has a reasonable expectation of doing so. Not expecting a club, which is PL in every way except position, to get back to the PL would be idiotic.
But as we all know, never have I once heard any of us say it’s undeserved. We had to sit for several years and watch the rot set in. We didn’t expect 4 years in League One but we knew a collapse was coming 2-3 years whilst still in the Premier League. Nobody has a devine right to anything, but clubs have infrastructure and they have history, fan base, they have potential and building blocks. Let’s just hope some of that is seen. Clubs like Wycombe could never be Sunderland. But a club like Sunderland could be an Everton, a West Ham or a Leicester. We aren’t all equal in life, we aren’t all equal as football clubs. I look at Leicester, in my opinion the most fantastically run and managed club on the planet, and I see hints that maybe, just maybe these new owners could get us there. We’d all settle for that. I can imagine the pride the Leicester fans have in that club, and they ain’t claiming to be United or Liverpool. Probably not even aiming for that.
League One teams and their fans hate us. They are jealous of our fanbase, our history and our resources. We are an easy target and it's lose-lose - when we win, we get slagged off for celebrating, when we lose it's "hilarious that little old <insert team name here> have beaten the mighty Sunderland with all their money etc etc" I couldn't give a flying **** what other fans think of us, call us arrogant, call us deluded, call us champions in waiting please...... Let's get the **** out of this league and NEVER look back
