Denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence, the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs. Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

Yeah, the big conspiracy of posting the rules on the internet and having them readily and freely available for all to see. Well. except for those who always form an opinion based on their tribal reflexes and thereafter refuse to admit they're wrong. :emoticon-0112-wonde

The only equivocation the divvies who don't understand the rules could have is that if you do that and the opponents still go on to score, as Trent did at Newcastle a few seasons ago, then according to those rules you could argue the player who handballs should still be sent off. But ffs, 'The red card was harsh'. Except for the specific rule that states just that and brainless blowhards don't want to read. <doh>

It says ... "the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball"

He clearly made attempt to play the ball...therefore penalty and a yellow...

But what do I care ... Chelsea got ****ed over and I get to laugh at pool for not beating 10 men...

Until the final whistle at 4pm when Watford run out winners thanks to a Danny Rose last minute wonder strike <wah>

    Since last years game changer
I like to look at everything on the Pickford Scale
And on that scale it was never a red

according to the rules it was somewhere between a red and a yellow

according to tobes ( who seems to mimic the scouse accent a lot for someone who is a local ? )
Nothing is ever a red in LiVARpools favour

if that had been VVD I am relatively confident that most on here would be saying it’s a red

personally I think it saved Chelsea but we will never know but it definitely ruined the game - I only get to listen nowadays but the game was a **** show after that - although reading BBC it was a Chelsea masterclass in defending as opposed to us not taking or pressing home our chances.

would I have been pissed if it was VVD getting sent off - yup but I think I would be more pissed at VVD for being so stupid for moving his arm toward the ball which is what I think has done for him.

    Kopite logic No.6789

Chelsea were ‘saved’ yesterday by conceding a penalty and having a man sent off, whilst 1-0 up at the time, and having to play half the game with 10 men.

    The spawny bastards <laugh>

    I think they were saved
    Tactically it made everything simpler
I am not saying Liverpool would have won but it meant there was very little chance that Chelsea were going to risk leaving themselves open

    and while I am here

Spawny bastards getting a red and a pen when a player handled the ball on the line (that was stupidly a red) but followed the current rules lmao<laugh>

So your problem isn't actually about the rules being applied properly, it's just run-of-the-mill victimhood of Liverpool fans.

Chelsea were visibly better than Liverpool until the (deserved) red card and would have won that game comfortably. They'll win the league this season.
