I don't care it's Anfield. Salah should have been booked all day long for that. He didn't kick the ball away, he smashed it. Poor from Taylor.
And for once, I actually really like them. (I mean it helps that Jose, Terry and Lampard are all nowhere to be seen.)
Don’t be silly. According to my United supporting friends, they’re a shoo-in for the title now they’ve signed “the greatest player in the world”
It's like the commentator wasn't expecting the red. It was never going to be a penalty without a red. Either nothing, or a penalty and a red.
I'm inclined to agree with you on that. But I'm not convinced it falls into the clear and obvious category for VAR to get involved in the first place.
Which is the problem with the handball rule. Players almost never intentionally handle the ball, but that's the necessary condition for it to be a pen. A lot of unintentional handballs are ruled pens, but you can't say "he didn't mean it to handle the ball but he did and it's a pen but not a red", because that's not the way the rule works.
Although it was the ref onfield who overturned his own decision (and very quickly too), so in that sense he was satisfied that it was clear and obvious that he'd missed a penalty. I also think this falls less into the 'wrong decision' category and more Taylor knowing so much happened in such a short space of time he might easily have missed something, a check on the VAR screen quickly cleared it up for him. I've no issue with him using it that way to get a decision he feels is right.
