They're getting rid of the indigenous american names from sports teams because it promotes fans to wear headdresses and paint their faces red in caricatures that promote stereotypes of a race that had their land stolen, the women raped, their sacred sites destroyed in one of the ugliest greed driven cultural and ethnic genocides in human history.

Seems fair enough to me really.

Drunk frat boys can wear pirate cutlasses, cowboy hats, tiger facepaint or whatever else they choose to replace the team's identities with.

Aren't they the ones who burned the ranches of sheep farmers, killed their flocks and drove them out to Australia.

    I rest my case ....

"The use of Caucasian to mean white was popularized in the late 18th century by Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, a German anthropologist, who decreed that it encompassed Europeans ...

... and the inhabitants of a region reaching from the Obi River in Russia to the Ganges to the Caspian Sea, plus northern Africans."

Imagine waking up everyday, walking out of your teepee, your lean-to or your house and standing in sheep ****. I'd be prettied fecked off too.

Still. At least we learned how to share what we don't have much claim to and didn't wipe out the indigenous in Australia like we did in America... oh wait.

So there I was, in my seat waiting excitedly for the kick-off, and low and behold, the gillie gang took the knee. The crowd was reasonably polite, only a smattering of boos and faces turned away in disgust, but up stood an Only Black Lives Matter white guy applauding the posing like a rabid believer. He was proving a point, he was a fully committed woke, and determined everyone would know it.

I sat down before the game started, though.

I hate this booing of the taking the knee. I don’t agree with taking the knee in general but to boo it is, imo, ignorant. Let people have their own way but respect their wishes. They would be entitled to boo SAFC for not taking the knee as much as we are entitled to boo them.

Spot on, I think bending the knee was right a while ago, whether it is now, is dubious.

However if I was in a team with black players and they wanted to do it I would back them

I think everyone, if they were being honest, would accept that the whole thing has been incredibly confused and awkward from the start.

It was the BLM bandwagon that was jumped on which was changed when people waving BLM flags started defacing public property, pulling down statues, etc. Then it was changed again to include 'all kinds of injustice and discrimination'. That's the point when it should've been stopped imo, it's a meaningless phrase. Should the Russians, currently supporting Putin, be accepted because they genuinely believe the Ukraine is a terrorist country seeking to destabilise their country?

I'd take a flyer and say we're all prejudiced against something or other, I am.

I don't want aspects of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex and Queer being introduced in my 6 year old granddaughters school, which it is. Surely religious beliefs, which don't concur with a man changing into a woman or a trans man and lesbian adopting children, should be respected every bit the same.

I don't believe anyone really knows what 'taking the knee' is all about now.

They're not because they're not trendy.

And that's where it's all gone wrong for me.

According to the authorities it's not only about racism but that's how people see it.

I’m happy for players to make their own choice. What grinds on me is not only the BBC insistence on making sure it’s shown , but the repetitive explanation of it by every commentator.

Interesting comment. woke "alert to injustice in society, especially racism."
My comment was more related to the prominent and in-your-face standing and loud clapping by the guy in competition with the fairly subdued booing. I just looked away, he made a statement that he was being woke .... loudly.
