There will probably be one or two changes in personnel, but not in our basic set-up, unless NA is more flexible than he has been so far. I'd like to see the skipper Pearce in the team but we don't have anyone who can play left wing back if we have 3 at the back. And we have no idea if any of the U-23's will do well if they step up. With one shot on target in our two home games it's hard to see where the goals are coming from.
I naively still think that if we get it to the flanks (along the ground), we might trouble their goalie. it does require one or two of our midfielders to make forward runs, so I’m not too hopeful. my prediction 0-0
Despite my despair at the state of our squad and despite the lack of any new signings since our last game, I am trying to remain as optimistic as possible. Quite frankly if we can't beat a team lower than us in the table, who have lost both their away games so far - not scoring a single goal in either of them and from who we stole probably their best player and who have a very long journey to get to us then we are in even more trouble than I feared. But please, please NA - do not play Stockley up front on his own. Not only is it too easy to defend against, but we don't have the attack minded midfielders to make it work in any case and it is excruciating to watch. My team - MacGillivray Inniss, Famewo, Pearce Matthews, Kirk, Watson, Morgan, Jaiyesimi Stockley, Washington That team should have goals in it so I'll go for a 2-0 win
Hopefully Lee is eligible for Saturday, in which case, sorry Albie, but I'd bring him in instead of you
IF Lee is starting then I’d go usual back 4 and keeper Dobson Albie Lee DJ Stockley Kirk Feeling a bit more optimistic but that’s probably my usual routine
The boo boys will go postal. twatter trolling of TS will reach epic proportions. 478 new threads will appear you-know-where...
It will be a huge relief to get a win though, obviously. Doubtless some will play it down (it's only Crewe... etc.) the same characters who like to tell us Chris Powell's Charlton were lucky to win 30 games and amass 101 points in 2011-12 and that the football was awful But the vast majority of Charlton fans will genuinely celebrate getting the season up and running at last...
What was all the moaning about - bit of a lack of confidence (good work the 'you're not fit to wear the shirt' boys) but we look tidy enough.2-0 and comfy.
