Looking more and more like another Man City trick to be honest . I wonder if they ever really wanted him?
Surely at least one of Martial, Lingard, Diallo or James would be leaving if Man United take Ronaldo back ?
Talk about players ruling the game. I doubt united had any interest in him till he said I want to go back there. That's the problem with these super players, they seemingly dictate and initiate the moves, not the clubs.
Just note on why anyone should really care if Man United are being had here... It is more that it might give City a clear run at Haaland next year. Which would make them truly unstoppable on paper and the league a bit silly But I still think Raiola wants him to end up at one of the Spanish mega clubs when their finances are sorted out. Which won’t be next summer. So potentially a stop gap move next summer ? Crazy as it sounds that will still likely be to someone like Bayern
Every player has the ability to decide whether they do or don't want to move to a particular club...their signature is required on the contract, after all. And yeah, Mendes and CR are the ones initiating, because Juve has the lack of leverage that comes with a player who is out of contract in a year and worth a fortune. They could absolutely decide not to sell, as Barca did with Messi, it's just that the marginal value of a year of a player like CR isn't actually worth the amount of money you can receive in transfer, and consequently they're willing to facilitate it.
Some of the reporting I have seen on Ronaldo says that it is city who have walked away and that he doesn’t fit the style of football guardiola wants to play surely the exact same statement would apply to both Kane and Haaland and yet they pursued Kane I heard something the other day where someone suggested city were trying to build goodwill and their fanbase by recruiting high profile England players after the national team became popular again over the euros. And that bringing in the captain would align with that. If Ronaldo doesn’t fit his style of play then neither does Kane and this can be the only reason they tried to get Kane And then there is the lingering question of whether city are just trying to get out ahead of a story where they have lost out to Man United despite being runaway champions and the more successful club for years now. Because the other rumour going around is that Sir Alex phoned Ronaldo and the talked him into not joining city It is certainly an interesting development
Frankly, the amount of unnecessary drama would put anyone off. Not sure I buy into your point of if they didn't want Ronaldo, they wouldn't want Kane or Haaland. I don't really see them as similar prospects.
The media ****athon over this is unbearable. Time to turn off the sports news, as well as the main news, I think.
I was focusing on the style of play point not as to whether they are prospects. They all play a lone striker role now and have good aerial ability. Kane and Ronaldo also drop deeper. I don’t think Haaland does I just don’t think any suit Pep. Look at who else didn’t really suit pep : Eto’o, Ibrahimovic and Aguero (he didn’t want to keep him) All some of the best strikers at the time. Granted as of next summer they will be looking beyond Pep
The nerve of Ronaldo For years says he will never play for M.City. Attempts to move to M.City, they decide they dont want him. Hours later he signs for United. HI GUYS IM HOME! It will be interesting the reception he gets, after this rather tainted homecoming.
You seriously believe he actively tried to go there and they didn’t want him? At absolute worst it was a case of his agent offering him to those who could afford him.
To think that Messi and Ronaldo were available in the same transfer window and Man City end up paying more for Grealish... the irony. They could have sold out their stadium.
Can they actually realise any of that gain to actually pay for the deal? Because as mentioned it more than pays for it But if it corrects itself over time this is kind of meaningless isn’t it ?
This Ronaldo **** fest should be on the Premier League thread because it has absolutely **** all to do with Saints. Who gives a flying **** what Manchester City/United do. The likes of them and their money has ruined the Premier League so can we just stick to what Saints are doing? We actually have had a far more interesting transfer window than what is happening at the so called 'elite' clubs.
Well there was a rumour linking us with a Diallo loan and I would expect him leaving on loan is more likely now ? But yeah it isn’t really relevant And not a position I think we are actively recruiting in as it is where we have most numbers Although we might still be keeping an eye out for opportunities given the link to the Korean lad from Valencia via Alan nixon this morning. But surely we would need to free up a slot in one of the wide roles and have only just brought Walcott in Only ones most would move on are Ely and Redmond and I doubt they’d have suitors. Indeed in an ideal world we could shake things up and bring in Ryan Christie and the free agent Korean kid and move out Ely and Redmond. But I don’t think we can move out either let alone both
Relevant only in the sense that it finally quashes the speculation that Ronaldo was on his way to St Mary’s. But as you imply, we can probably move on from that now. Anyone heard anything on the rumours Mbappe is coming this way?
