Not sure that's correct in Carvalho's case DH. He is certainly closer to a "true" DM than any of the other candidates we've been linked with. This is how his Wikipedia entry describes his style of play: "Carvalho plays primarily as a defensive midfielder, although he can also be deployed as a central midfielder or a central defender. Known for his passing range and accuracy, ability to control a game and composure on the pitch, he earned praise for his imposing physicality. In spite of lacking pace, Carvalho acted fast when it came to decision-making. He was often compared to Patrick Vieira." (I presume the use of the past tense is a result of translation, not an acknowledgement that the player is already in semi-retirement!) Arsenal were said to be looking at him, attracted no doubt by the comparisons with Viera. But when you look at the age profile of their recent signings, at 29 Carvalho is not exactly a good fit.
Lees-Melou? Carvalho is also capable of playing as a 'resista' in the new formation and my guess is that Normann is as well.
I'm clutching at straws Rick. As I posted several days ago, my belief is that DF doesn't actually want a true DM. Of all those we've been linked to other than Ollie Skipp, Carvalho is the closest to being that type of player. In my eyes he's an older, more experienced, and more proven Amadou and exactly what IMO we need.
Good Lord, NO! I used to be a left back, but would play CB if needed. I'll sign if it stops you moaning
Carvalho has the potential to combine the DM role when defending with the regista role when we have the ball. The Regista (Italian for 'director') regulates the pattern and pace of the game through play and passing and that combined with DM abilities could be very effective. Gilmour has the former, but I'm not convinced he has the DM capabilities, whereas Sørensen has the DM skills, but only partially the regista skillset. My guess is that is what the coaching staff are working hard on with both players. Carvalho could be a ready-made solution straightaway. Edit: And just to stop Dunc moaning, Carvalho can also play at CB.
They have other very good players. They're also in financial difficulty, so may be prepared to do a deal we can afford.
Tom Trybull joins Hannover, in the second German division, on a one year deal. Presumably he left us by "mutual consent" once this was arranged, so at least our pay-off to him would have been minor to reflect that.
With 4 days to go, 96 hours or so to make two signings, I wonder how confident Farke/Webber are at getting the business they promised done? We haven't had a CB rumour for a while, and we seem to be clinging to the "rabbit out of the hat" style of transfer dealing now...
A twitter source of dubious reliability suggests Carvalho was a ruse, the club are all-in on Normann. He's the one to look out for.
Did you say "of dubious reliability" DH? Maybe he's been reading this thread and come across this: "Given Sky Sports seemed to have this first, I suspect a high-profile leak to get media attention and worry our actual target(s) into action"
While we're waiting, here's a tactical profile of Normann's strengths and weaknesses which certainly clarifies why we're so interested: https://totalfootballanalysis.com/a...020-21-scout-report-tactical-analysis-tactics Very much a regista profile.
Yeah that is a very good bit of analysis. Difficult to know whether those numbers would still stack up in the Premier League, but it does feel like he is worth more than a try.
Sky sports have blown these figures out of the water they reckon he is on £82k a week! Definitely out of our ball park
