Here's a proper Zayatte headed goal...
yeah i remember it well, because my mates dad never betted, but that game he decided to have a few quid on zayatte, because we always did turner and he fancied mixing it up.....interesting who took the corners on both videos posted, ..waste of space according to most...
If you want to defend Marney you can't use his corner taking ability. 90% of them went into the stand on the far side. A bit like 90% of Cairney's don't even reach the penalty area. I don't get why it's so hard to find someone who can put a ball into the box. I mean I'd be disappointed if I took a corner that poorly and obviously I'm nowhere near as good as these players.
marneys corners werent nearly as bad as cairneys , a lot of the headed goals mentioned on this thread where from his corners, ashbees at barnsley and palace was, most of turners where.. does irritate me if im honest, marney was in a key position for a promotion and half a season we where riding high in the premier league, hes nowhere near as useless as hes made out to be, he was brilliant at arsenal and whl..and played 40 odd times on the way to wembley..i think a left back or a right back can at times get away with it and ride there luck..but you dont get far with a useless engine room i agree with you about profrssional footballers tho and how bad they are at things...shooting so far over completely angers me, taking this weekend just for an example, korens shot hit the bar and fell right in front of goal to mcelan, it wasnt the easiest chance in the world i admit, but even still, it wasnt just that he missed, but how far he missed, it went about 15 foot wide and 10 foot over, theres no way a pro footballer should be missing by that far, if id have done that at sunday league level, my old man wouldnt have talked to me the rest of the weekend... i noticed in the liverpool game, skrtel did the same with an easier chance in the last minute..i know hes a defender, but he nearly cleared the kop, its stupid, they do nothing but practice football all week, for thousands of pounds, it shouldnt be deemed acceptable.
Agreed, corners aside he was a really good player in the time period you've mentioned, and considering Boateng gets so much credit for doing a very similar job it is a bit harsh on him. But because he now plays for Burnley it makes me want to think he's crap
As far as I know, Zayatte scored only one header at the right end and that was the one against Sunderland, so we're hardly missing his contribution to set pieces. As for Marney, I didn't think he contributed enough, but his corners were definitely better than Cairney's. How can a lad so good at free kicks, be so ****ing useless at corners? We need to work on our set pieces, our corners are ****, our free kicks are generally wasted(unless they're direct) and thinking about it, I'm not sure why I get excited when we get a corner, we either don't beat the first man, or we kick it straight over everyone's head.
I just think Zayatte was more of an aerial threat than anybody currently in the side. When did we last score a headed go or look threatening from a corner or set piece? Think we should work on short corners as we've got nobody who can bang in a bullet header any way !!!
Agree delivery is not always great but also everything is so static and no one seems to know their roles. Must be on NP's to do list!
