Not much to go on, but more positive than Dave Freezer's grudging, damning with faint praise, acknowledgement of his performance last night.
If I remember correctly, it was a visit to Cardiff in the EFL Cup in August 2018 that lit the fuse in that Championship winning season. We beat Cardiff 1:3, with goals from Srbeny (2) and Max Aarons. We didn't look back from then on. Of course, that was the Championship.
Buendia, who was he? Tzolis is our new super hero. First impressions indicate that SW has possibly pulled off a master stroke, with Josh Sargent just behind. With Buendia gone our style of play would of necessity need to evolve. It appears that the pieces are in place for this to happen. Whether this evolvement is great enough for our remaining in the PL is yet to be determined. But I am in a happier place now than I was on Sunday.
Hopefully they'll put out a slightly less experienced side and we may have a glimmer of hope this time round!! I was watching highlights earlier of our 5-4 home loss to them a few seasons ago. 3-1 up, 4-3 down, then Bassong with the injury time equaliser and we still managed to lose in about the 96th minute!
That was Naismith's first game for us. He was excellent and, having just arrived from Everton, would have loved to put one over Liverpool. He was subbed late on and had to watch from the sidelines as we conceded that late goal. That was the moment he realised what he had let himself in for. I remember a comment from him afterwards to the effect that, if eleven players, in those circumstances, couldn't keep their their goal intact for the final few minutes deep into stoppage time, there was something seriously wrong.
Yes, something was seriously wrong. We'd spunked all our money on a player who thought he was too good for us.
Somehow Robbie takes Naismith's side and even though he was our highest paid player , because the manager at the time had the audacity to sub him he decided to sulk and go on strike for the remainder of his contract even deciding to leech off us until we went up again with zero help from him to get his bonuses. This is also Somehow a reflection on Farke even though he was still in Germany.
To be fair I’m not sure Robbie did mean it quite that way - we know from comments from Delia and co. that there were big problems at the club at the time and it came to a head when we had to sell Maddison to stay solvent. Of course, Naismith was a part of the problem, but he also was right in identifying some of the other issues. Robbie could have phrased it a hell of a lot better though.
Clearly Robbie wants Chris Hughton back. I am sure Forest fans will not be too upset to see the back of him..
I have literally never heard a Norwich fan take Naismith's side in arguably our most detrimental signing in history. We were completely conned by him and whoever drafted his contract. I would go so far as to say I hate the prick
For me, worst signing ever. Mainly because it used up a wodge of money that could have gone to signing a player who cared and who might have kept us up. And also it was an albatross around our neck for a long time after the signing. I know that, like all clubs, we have had a lot of flops over the years: e.g. RvW. But no matter how disappointing RvW was, he was young, he was always going to be a risk, he didn't think he was doing us a favour by honouring us with his presence, and he never stopped trying even when it clearly wasn't working out. In a way, I can't blame Naismith. If someone had offered me a contract on silly money to turn up and teach a class occasionally, I'd probably have accepted it. Especially if it was clear that I could use my old notes from 20 years ago and didn't have to put any effort into my teaching. And if I wasn't in the mood, I could hang up a sign on the door that said, 'Gone Fishin'. Read Chapter 7 of the textbook.'
Maybe if we were a mega rich faceless franchise that could afford it , but from what I understand about the situation he somehow avoided a wage decrease from a relegation scrap he barely tried in. At the time his wage demands were crippling the club and we were close to bankruptcy again. That would be terrible mishandling from our side but if he could have been sitting on his arse coining it in as the club went to the wall that doesn't sit right with me. Pretty sure we were paying his wages at Hearts and he delayed signing for then until he got all his bonuses paid too for promotion. No relegation clause but a promotion bonus , Satan himself must have been his agent.
