Re Kane If kane had agreed terms with City and they, in turn had offered us £150m plus add ons and agreed to keep their mouths shut until we bought a replacement striker or two Kane would be a City player. The arrogance and sheer stupidity of Kane and City (especially he who must be called Pep) has caused them to look like prize numpties...only outdone by the Sun for announcing a "world exclusive " 31 days ago saying "kane deal to City agreed for £160m! Glad he is staying as it makes us stronger but no longer one of our own to me.
This is how I feel. I’m amazed City didn’t eventually bid the amount. Maybe they had second thoughts on him. Kane now has to knuckle down and score a lot of goals to win back the Spurs fans.
As I said the other day, Citeh could not afford both Kane and Grealish. Given the release clause for the latter was the "immovable object" , either they shifted out even more players to free up the funds, or engaged in an unsettling campaign so Kane would do the dirty and they would get him at a price they could afford. Whatever Citehs' ambitions are from here onwards, of the two players they wanted, time will tell on whether given the choice of one or nowt they chose the wrong one.
Judging by the response to Kane from our away fans on Sunday he is forgiven and pretty much all is forgotten. Which in this mercenary game is probably how to handle it. He made a play it was not very subtle but that may be his advisors guiding him, let's hope he has learned how not to handle a projected move. Come on Spurs win a ****ing trophy to keep him quiet next season.
I’d have been interested to see the reaction if it had been a home game and the chanting of the Wolves fans was therefore less audible. I think a lot of the support was a reaction to Wolves fans having a go at him. Like I said a while back, for me the ‘one of our own tag’ is slighted by his actions and I’m not sure I’d chant that in different circumstances to those on Sunday. But if he scores a load of goals again and is performing as we know he can then fans will cheer him and I’d have no problem joining in.
I’ll be chanting “he’s one of our own” at Watford, assuming he starts/ comes on. Everyone is rightly pissed at how he went about things but he’s still a player we’ve produced that’s gone on to be one hell of a baller and as of right now we know we’ve still got at least one more year of him which I’m buzzing about. I want good players at Tottenham, not overly arsed if you’re a bit of a dick as long as you do the business on the pitch, that really is all I care about.
Ali Gold was pointing out that Spurs away fans are more supportive of our players than the home fans. Maybe because they have invested more into the team and feel closer to the players. If you think about it there is little sense in giving Kane a hard time now that he is going to be playing for us this season. I assume he will do his best on the pitch and that will help Spurs so the option that is best is to support the team. Mumbling into your beer is maybe better than noisy hostility.
I'll be chanting it on Thursday evening. I am pretty sure he will start and get a great reception. (BTW, sunday's game is at home , so don't go to Watford)
It’s gonna happen. Or at least it’s what the club want to happen. **** knows why though. Zero upgrade on what we have and he’ll cost more than what we paid for any of our current wingers/ wide forwards. May as well install a running track at the stadium too.
It's a big fee for a substitute. That's how Nuno used him at Wolves. I suppose it makes Nuno feel at home but Traore is not what we need. I suppose it confirms that we are going to be a counter attacking team with all these runners. Not my favourite form of the game.
I don’t even mind being a counter side but we’ll still need a creator in the middle and so far there’s very little talk of one coming in, that’s what really concerns me. If we haven’t got the guy in the middle to make the key through passes on a counter, how does the counter work effectively enough? A creator also allows us to be more dominant in games against lesser opposition too, as hard working as Skipp, Hojbjerg and Dele are, they won’t break down stubborn opposition like Modric/ Eriksen could.
Traore would be a hell of a player if he was consistent. Kane needs to get back performing at his usual level ASAP. If he does, I think the shenanigans this summer will be old news very quickly. If he doesn’t, his apparent discontentment and disloyalty will continue to be the main story - to the detriment of the team and team spirit generally.
I feel like I’m part of a minority regarding Traore. Just about every comment from other fans on social media is very positive and in favour of signing him. Are our fans that desperate? Or am I missing something? All I see is us becoming very dangerous on the counter if he can pick out a ball to Kane and Son, but no solution to our playmaker issue, whilst using up a monumental amount of our transfer budget. What do we do when teams sit back and don’t let us counter? I remember a season at wembley when teams sussed us out, and we went through a spell of about 2 months that was utterly dreadful. They all just watched what the previous teams tactics, and followed suit. There was a match against Burnley in particular that stands out. We looked utterly clueless.
Of all the positions needing to be addressed, winger was towards the bottom of the list and probably second only to left back....so, we're looking to sign two of them. Are we looking to re-employ Gerry Francis?
