No, its not my opinion that Dalglish won a premier league and Steve Bruce hasn't. Thats a fact. Rafa took over Newcastle when they were all but relegated. Also Rafa has also won the Champions League, which Steve Bruce will also NEVER achieve in month of Sundays. Anyone who knows anything about football would not be arguing that Steve Bruce is a better manager than Rafa Benitez Again, I dont even like Rafa, i'm a Chelsea fan and I think he is a daft fat ****. But he is still objectively 10 times the manager Steve Bruce will ever be
You have just made that up. They weren't even in the bottom 3 when he took over Rafa isn't better for Newcastle than Bruce. That's what we are discussing. League position and points total back that up.
Why do you keep focusing on Rafa? 1) Rafa took over Newcastle with like 8 games left of the season, with a terrible squad, I wouldnt say HE got them relegated by a long shot 2) He got them promoted back up at the first attempt 3) Of course he wasnt going to set the world on fire with a Newcastle team who had just been promoted to the PL from the championship. He kept them up, but what else would you expect. And even if I conceded that Bruce was a better manager than Rafa, which I ****ing well dont, it doesnt change the fact that Newcastle have had much better managers than Bruce. Managers who have won titles both in England and in Europe. Bruce has won **** all, and will never win **** all, because he is ****e and Championship level at best.
Why am I focusing on Rafa? Sorry I thought this was a debate around Newcastle managers? You said Bruce was the worst one Newcastle have had, I'm showing that Rafa was worse for Newcastle than Steve Bruce, especially the money that Rafa spent. Steve Bruce done a good job managing in the premier league with Wigan and Sunderland. He has just finished the previous season with Newcastle as high up as can be expected. Your argument that he is championship manager, at best, doesn't hold much weight. Rafas tactics in that run-in where Newcastle were relegated was the reason that they went down that season. They faced a Villa side that had lost about 11 in a row and Newcastle drew 0-0 because of his refusal to be anything other than defensive, that result amongst other ****ty performances were the reason Newcastle were relegated. He had them promoted from the championship after spending lots of money though. Go Rafa. I've not said Bruce is better than benitez. Just that Bruce has done better for Newcastle than Benitez. Your argument of him being the worst manager in the premier league for Newcastle is based on absolutely nothing but your clear dislike for the bloke.
I didnt say he was the worst Newcastle manager ever. Spurlock said they cant get better, and my argument was that they have HAD better before, many times. John Carver was probably their most baffling appointment, Steve McClaren was also dog ****. Bruce and Pardew were also ****ing terrible. Its between one of those imo. They have had better managers than Steve Bruce though, was my point
They can't get better does not mean they haven't had better but that 'fact' is irrelevant tbh. Going forward they can't get better. Hope that helps Bod
haha, maybe not until they get a new owner, I suppose. Until then they might be ****ed. Mike Ashley is a ****.
I thought Pardew was a good manager. Fans drove him out because he was a cockney geezer more than the football stuff. I liked him, never wanted him to leave and was vindicated when we were relegated right after that. His squad was atrocious.
Rafa had a worse squad than Steve Bruce had last season though, but I think partly that was Rafa's own fault. He signs utter guff, only this season did the last dregs of his squad finally get sold off. Bruce is a downer for 3 reasons, the football is sloppy ****e with little redeeming qualities. the man himself is egotistical, boring, unwilling to change and he's a puppet for the owners. Newcastle will get relegated eventually like, no doubt. It's always a ticking time bomb.
Laughing at the Rafa-Bruce comparisons. Quick fix, end of season and you're in a relegation fight. Sure, Bruce would be the man you pick. Rafa hasn't got the emotional qualities needed to pick up a demoralized squad. Long term strategic vision with a summer to prepare. There isn't even a competition. Rafa is miles ahead of Bruce. Rafa tends to swing and miss a lot regarding transfers, he also has a hard time motivating players who are down... He's not a people-person... Strategically though he is very good. Much better than Bruce. Rafa doesn't understand people, but he understands the game better than almost anyone. Rafa's lack of empathy to his players means he will always stay in that second tier of manager, but he's much better than Bruce. Bruce is a buy the players a beer and tell 'em to hoof it and kick lumps type of manager. He's good for a relegation scrap, but will never be a top manager or a particularly strategic manager. If I wanted a manager to manage a team of preprogrammed robots Rafa would be my first pick of any manager out there. Give the robots emotions and he drops to the second tier.
for clubs of that size it is often worse to stay in PL for some time and then get relegated as it is then they must get promoted while they have the PL parachute payments or else very difficult financial problems will almost inevitably follow .
I can get on board with that. I see what you are saying. Also their CV's speak for themselves. Rafa has won the CL and multiple cups and managed Real Madrid. Can you ever imagine Real Madrid offering Steve Bruce a contract . Again, I dont even like Rafa, and I agree he is not in the top tier of managers, but Steve Bruce is solid gold ****e as a manager. Cracking player tho
they were the original pioneers of going up using the extra money to improve squad ( with relegation clauses in contracts ) with one eye to getting promoted again the next season until they have a squad capable of competing in PL .
Obviously I love Rafa, he transformed out club from one going into decay into a modern club and won us a CL. That said, he did have problems. I think, rivalry/loyalty reasons aside, there is not one club in Europe who would pick Bruce over Rafa... Unless it's as I said, to fix a relegation scrap or as a short term pick-me-up. Bruce at Real Madrid would be amusing. There would be riots in the streets of Madrid.
Going up and down will never attract the better players, when do these clubs actually, right, now's the time to go for it. Tbh though, I'm glad there are these clubs, makes it a little easier for us to stay up.
I once went to a game at St Andrews when he was manger at Brum, I was sat behind the dugouts and the natives were very restless, one was giving him dogs abuse, Bruce turned round and told him to **** off and said something else which I couldn't make out, but it looked like he offered him out, the bloke stood up and was ****ing massive, Bruce looked suitably embarrassed and turned back to the pitch, didn't turn around again even though the abuse continued
Norwich literally cannot afford to gamble though as there financial situation . like so many others . isn't great .
