Ah man, that's a big one gone. Brilliantly understated drummer. The Stones would have been half the band without him. RIP.
Certainly was one of the greatest sticks men out there. Love the off kilter beat that he lays down on this Stones classic... R.I.P. Charlie...
Said to hear about Charlie Watts. Not a fan of the Rolling Stones but he was respected in the jazz community because he was recongised as having such an affinity and understanding of this music. Growing up playing jazz is always going to leave you in good stead musically, especially when you are a drummer. There is probably no better foundation if this is your instrument. I think that Charlie Watts really knew his stuff.
Really sad to have heard the news about Charlie Watts. Glad to be able to say I saw him live a few years back when The Stones played St.Marys. RIP Charlie Watts.
This track from Scousers, The Coral, reminds me of another band from that famous musical city, The La's. It's from their concept double album, Coral Island, which has drawn comparisons with The Kink's Village Green Preservation Society....
Ever wondered what one of your music heroes listens to? well now I know. Here are some of Bob Mould's favorite albums and a couple of suprises are in there...
I like it …. Know I’m a dinosaur, but they’re extremely talented and I’d rather them than some of the dross I hear on the radio these days (not Fable, of course!)
I’m glad they’re only appearing as holograms on their tour, it would be awful to see them as they are nowadays. Let’s keep those memories intact.
Love this sketch from Not the Nine O’Clock News! Brilliant!! Of course, my claim to fame (apart from being a long suffering Saints supporter) is that I once sang with Björn Ulvaeus
It was - and she did. His two daughters from that marriage (I don’t know if he’s still married - think he is) went to the same school in Stockholm as my two children and were in my son’s class. So we got him to autograph my friend’s (ABBA fanatic of note) LP collection. He was a very approachable guy - and I stood next to him and his missus at the school Christmas carol concert. So, I can truthfully say that I once sang with a quarter of ABBA
This won’t make much coherent sense because of the Weston’s Vintage Cider I’ve had, but I have just got in from the Glastonbury Extravaganza in the Abbey grounds with Van the Man topping the bill. I can honestly say that was one of the best gigs ever. Unbelievable musicianship from Van and every one of the band, perfect, crystal clear sound, a beautiful evening in a stunningly beautiful setting. He even finished with Brown Eyed Girl and Gloria! And then there were fireworks!
Sounds amazing mate, I still get goosebumps remembering his version of She Moved Through The Fair at the Mayflower. Was his old mate Georgie Fame with him?
No Georgie, but the band were just superb. Here's the set they did, except Michael Eavis asked them to do Madame George, and they finished with Brown Eyed Girl and a blistering version of Gloria. This is them rehearsing at Real World in Box:
