You're mistaking Man City going from the third division to the PL and being taken over by the current owners.

The point being that they didn't spend fortunes until they were bought by Mansour, even then it was 10 years until they won the PL.

It was David Bernstein who stopped the daft signings and sorted out the finances in the third division.

The similarity is that Sunderland and Man City were skint and now have significant funds ...

... that doesn't mean we'll throw money around unnecessarily in L1.

And can't compete with either RM or Barca on spending. Perhaps you should check their figures.

Athletico are in the top 3 spenders of la liga year in year out, which is why they come in the top 3 every season.

    Check the figures.

We're not in a league that lends to spending. We're in the third tier.

And on that basis how do you rate Josh Maja compared to Grigg ?

I really don't get this argument.
If we had bought every player that has come to the club this summer we would have spent more than anyone else in this league, how much do you think Doyle would have cost.
So yes the players do not belong to us but they will still be playing for us.
Who have other teams signed in this league that are better quality than what we have

    Not in my experience.

People I talk to don't see Sunderland as a joke, far from it.

We're seen as no different to Ipswich, Sheff Wed, Portsmouth as big clubs who've slipped down the leagues or Leeds, Wolves or Southampton as a club with the potential to recover and move back up.

We have a stadium and facilities equal to any of them, now being improved, and an internal infrastructure to match.

I'm proud of my club and accept that clubs, like any investment, can rise and fall.

I can understand us being classed as a joke when Del boy and Rodney were at the helm because quite frankly we were.
However this is KLD first season, he spent the time last year to put the foundations in place and in my opinion looking at who we have brought in has been time well spent.
Like you I'm very proud of our club and I know it's a matter of opinion but I don't understand how people can't be anything other than optimistic and excited

We didn't sell Wyke, plus Maja left over two years ago, other than that

Neither player wanted to be at Sunderland ...

... which means I don't want them here either.

I don't think we were ever in the top two with Maja and we failed to go up with Wyke.

Brentford... Limited funds? Aye right <laugh> Brentord spent a lot of money getting out of the championship and have spent close to 40 million in this tranfer window so far...

I assume Ipswich are going to walk the 3rd division this year having spent 3 - 4 million on new players? I also seen Hull City being put forward, well, we have spent about the same as they did last season and they were promoted. I assume that means we'll be promoted, too?

2 years apart from Maja being lead by his agent and Wyke running down his contract then also chasing the money. Neither situation makes the club look like a joke, your comment however is up there with one of the most pathetic comments I’ve seen on this board. An absolute joke of a comment, no foundation whatsoever upon which to brand the club a joke.

Very strange isn't it, I've never really noticed this Monty character before and this comment seems weird as things stand.

I expect he's a wum or a Mag but it's possible he has issues that we should consider and treat him gently ...

... there's all sorts of people on the internet, some who may well deserve our sympathy.

I think the reality is that this is just fishing for bites, his sub text says it all really... "Not a real SAFC fan". Not really worth discussing anything Sunderland related with in that case.
