Yangel Herrera from City on loan with option to buy next year would be my ideal finish to a window. Absolute pipe dream tho.
I still think there might yet be another signing....... who I don't have a clue...........my contact hasn't intimated who or what. He did say they were looking at a goalkeeper last week but no indication as to whom or where.......rotter!!
The reality, especially for a club like us who relies on selling players, is that we're probably looking at players in all positions, all the time. Whether we sign them is another thing and likely depends on outgoings. Is your contact reliable? Has he got anything right this summer?
Usually exceptionally reliable..........So far hasn't put a foot wrong. He knows he can trust me not to say anything so I cannot always broadcast the news he has given me. He knows I used to be a mod on here. He tells me what I can and cant put to print.
I’m assuming the extra signing isn’t Thierry Small, who has been announced this morning? Would be nice if it was a CM.
If we can get a new number 1 (and shift one of ours out) and loan (or buy but that seems unlikely) a new number 6 - potentially one that can be a 5th CB option then I think most people would be very happy with the summer all things considered indeed the goalkeeper part would be an unexpected surprise The DM would be a big priority to me as we have one player who can play there realistically. But it is our usual problem of trying to convince somehow who will be an obvious reserve. Shame we used our Chelsea loan as Trevor Chalobah (or to a less extend Ampadu) would have been great
They want 20m and I don’t see any club stumping up that much him given his experience level (makes the 25m JWP bid look silly) I was going to say only West Ham if they sell Rice (which they won’t). But maybe Villa since they seem desperate for a new central midfielder
I like the idea of us becoming a club that promising young players join and excel at for 2-3 years and move on for big fees. The Dortmund of the premier league Many good players only stay with us for that time anyway . Might as well profit Someone on saintsweb foolishly talked of Bellingham but I think the idea would be more that we get into a position where the next sancho or Bellingham consider joining us rather than going to Germany. Sure they might play with better players depending on the club (Dortmund being the obvious) and get some champions league games. But at Saints they don’t have to move country at a young age which for some might be a big thing It does seem that this strategy may not work for some positions though - notably goalkeeper and CB. Just so much more pressure. Any goalkeeper good and composed enough to start in the premier league at 18 would be truly exceptional but also much more of a gamble. Even the “you don’t win anything with kids” crop at Man United were anchored by Schmeichel , Bruce and Pallister
Another RB?, hmm I shouldn't think so... https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/s...-and-southampton-circle-middlesbrough-player/
Would allow us to move Tino up the pitch and have a backup for KWP without having all our main 3 fullbacks playing at once
Make hay while the sun shines, I say. Stable PL clubs who struggle fill their squads with expensive purchases - Palace, Burnley, Brighton, Newcastle - can offer young prospects the same as us.
Weston McKennie is apparently available. Yes it will be a fair size price, but weren't Saints really pushing hard to sign him, before he went to Juve?
Brighton yes. But Tino turned them down for us. I'm not sure Burnley or Newcastle are ideal places for a youngster to go TBH.
I think the best thing about this transfer window is that the board have backed Ralph to the hilt. It's now his team. With depth. Looking at Mark Hughes last game in charge: McCarthy, Stephens and Armstrong are the only survivors. Romeu and JWP couldn't even make it past the bench. He said that the squad wasn't good enough and he'll have been very happy with the bench on Saturday. Now we have four or five B teams players training with the first team and pushing really hard for a chance.
