I do think that Sissoko is starting to physically decline

In his first season or two, while there were criticisms to be made there was no denying that his sheer physicality when driving forward was awe-inspiring, even if the end product likely wasn't

Yet in the last season or so he hasn't really been able to replicate that, and I don't think that can simply be pinned on the ubermensch's tactics considering how having somebody driving through the middle is what a counterattacking team needs, and he's hardly shown it in the French squad either

This, of course, is exacerbated by the weaknesses in other parts of his game

 

It's all that Sissoko's fault...

At this point I would swap Ndombele for a Juventus replica shirt.

Just get him off the wage bill.

 

Not quite, but he is the poster boy for what's gone wrong. Poch never wanted him...for good reason. He was a Levy purchase...along with Aurier...and Lucas....and Rodon...even Bale.

Levy signed those players, that his managers haven't wanted and have used only when necessary, which was a waste of money and has severely hampered the club.

Sissoko's a symptom. Levy's the disease.

Spurs have gently become spineless by replacing top players with temporary place markers and squad options who have been expected to cover the gaps for too long.

CM - Modric > Dembele —> Sissoko - Winks

DM - Parker/Sandro > Wanyama > Dier —> Skipp - Hojbjerg

AM - Eriksen > Lo Celso - Ndombélé

Only Kane and Lloris are left.

I actually think we could do well with our AM options, relative to other midfield positions, if we had top draw CMs and DMs in place. Even Holberg who does great work for us is covering for a multitude of ills in the midfield, is not necessarily the best in either DM or CM position. Great player to have in a squad though.

Personally I'd rather Sissoko go now than Ndombele. That's why I posted that tweet.

I don't share the seemingly general opinion and negative thoughts about Ndombele as many do. I think with the right midfield around him he'll shine. I'd sooner get the right midfield around him than sell him at a loss. Especially this season.

In that regard I believe he's similar to Kane. I don't see either leaving in this window because nobody can afford it. Unless Poch comes in for them.

Looks like they'll both have to knuckle down eventually and find a way to contribute to the squad.

 

Just a timely reminder that Modric and van der Vaart were signed by Levy...

As expected, in spite us (allegedly...) offering him higher wages when Paratici (allegedly...) met with his agent the other day (allegedly...), he's rejected the offer we (allegedly...) made and is (definitely...) leaning on Milan for a new contract that improves on the £107k p/w wages he is (demonstrably...) paid in his contract which (coincidentally...) expires at the end of this season

 

A few others are picking up on the story now...


In other news, Lille striker Jonathan David liked something on our Instagram, which is the same as handing in a transfer request...right?

I think PSV would more likely to be open to a loan with an option to buy than Wolves.

We’ve got a here we go! Bit disappointing we’re loaning him back though when he’s more than likely an upgrade on Winks, Sissoko, Ndombele and Lo Celso… I mean he can’t be any worse anyway.

 

Frustrating that a new recruit is going to be away for another year but he’s so young that it’s surely better for him to have another year in an environment he’s thriving in, then come in and get settled properly next summer with a full preseason.

Definitely an exciting move for us, even if it doesn’t solve any problems this season. We really need 3 more players at least this window now and the lack of outgoings is frustrating, if understandable.

 

...and before anyone asks, he turns 19 in a few weeks, so he won't qualify as HG

 

I know absolutely sweet FA about him but I will be watching a few Metz games from now on if I can find them
