As first posts go this is right up there with the best. Agree with all that. Please post more.....

As for the thread, can understand the nerves but people need to realise these guys have a plan. They arnt going to throw money away on players to fill squad places but they will be patient for the right players. I think Speakman and Johnson are comfortable with this tact as they backed their players to do the job and yesterday's match proves them correct.

I also don't agree that our signings so far are players past their peak. Evans is probably on the edge of it yes at 31 but Pritchard certainly isn't and has a lot to prove. They are clearly aiming at recruiting experienced higher division pro's alongside young quality. I'm excited about the players we are going to sign even if they arnt big names.

Huddersfield fans call Pritchard their Rodwell. All about opinions. I'm convinced we could have had 3 defenders at least to improve us and take us into championship over the summer. It's never been a case of early signings are ****e and late ate mint.

Just over a fortnight later, and with a week still to go ...

... how do you think the transfer window is going so far?

Not bad, but think we're still missing a keeper, a right winger, a striker, a left back, a right back, a creative midfielder, a left-sided centre back, a left winger, a box to box midfielder, a defensive midfielder, a right-sided centre back and maybe someone who can sit in midfield and control the tempo of the match whilst being able to play the perfect ball out to our wingers and to our striker whilst simultaneously being able to sit deep and protect our centre backs.

That's the least we're going to need or else I can see us having to spend another season in this ****e league!

If we don’t get to 30 points before the transfer window closes then I'd change the manager as well - bring in a hungry young manager who has already secured promotion in at least 16 seasons and who has such a big future ahead of him that we'll have the likes of Lukaku, Messi and Mbappé begging him to let them join SAFC to round out their trophy count by adding a pizza trophy medal.

So generally I think the transfer window has a few surprises yet to offer.

Not much has changed in my opinion.

We’ve spent next to nothing, mainly loans and free agents.

If it comes off and we are promoted, then it’s a gamble that’s paid off. If it doesn’t, and we spend another year in this league, the blames lays at the boards door.

Johnson is doing very well with very little funds at the moment, let’s hope he continues. But if he doesn’t, I will be placing no blame on him whatsoever.

What makes paying a fee for player better than a loan or a free.
A free transfer is for a player who's contract has ended who you would otherwise have to pay for, most loans are for players you couldn't afford to buy

  9. You surely can't be suggesting a correlated link between amount of money spent and success on the field. Just look at our last decade....that approach has failed time after time. In fact, you only to need to look at our current squad to see it.....the most expensive player in it is the biggest failure.

To be fair mate most teams in this league and league 2 are put together with freebies and loans, it’s getting the best ones that is the key.

It's not just the immediate benefit, from having players like Doyle, it's the effect it will have on future loans which could help in the future ...

... and it's the players like Winchester, who came on a free, and are now worth significant money.

Jebbison would cost us £1m if we manage to bring him in on loan.

There can't be many people who are still obsessed with big money signings and 'names'.

And would I like to see half the team made up from home grown lads who 'cost nothing' ... absolutely.

Oh aye mate we need to see the full picture and I think most of us do. I think we’re gonna have a great future we just need a little patience when some signings don’t work out.

Now that should get you a life time ban. You have just mentally scared a large proportion of the board.

We've probably spent a hundred times the money most of this league has, and here we are still in it. Crackers that people still believe you can spend your way out of it.

What’s the issue with loans and free agents? Why do we need to spend to succeed? The players we’ve brought in, on loans, frees and purchases, fit the bill of what we need.

Or are you suggesting we simply go and spend money because Wigan and Ipswich have?

Look at the top of any league. The highest spenders will be there, or very close.
