Oh I tried golf just the once, practice shots on some Leisure Centre Grounds. I tried to hit a golf ball like I would try and hit a cricket ball, as hard as I ****ing well could Which just doesn't work at all
My heart beat per minute is constantly below 60 and sometimes just over 50 at rest. My doctor reckons that is the BPM of a supreme athlete.............and me
I was a flying left winger in the school rugby team and I scored 7 tries in one match once. I was also a pretty good sprinter and ran in the Yorkshire schhoolboys trials when I was 14, where I came 3rd in the 200 and won the 100. I never heard any more about it so there must have been quicker lads than me elsewhere
I ran the line in a game that half of the Mags 1969 Fairs Cup winning team played in. I was 16, they were early to mid 50s. One football team I played for once went two complete seasons without losing a game. The one I'm proudest of though is the role I've just got with a semi-pro football club as it means that people who I respect and admire in football trust me and have faith in my knowledge and ability.
A lovely man. Very unassuming. You wouldn’t know he’d been a great athlete until he got you on the track and then his competitiveness kicked in.
PS. I'm 72 now and after surgery on both knees and my lower spine, followed by a broken back, I couldn't run to save my life now!!
I ****ing hated cross country and it was the only thing I got picked for in school. Learned my lesson after that, ran slower than everyone else and got dropped
I am with you there. Our problem was our sports master said anyone in the football team had to finish top 20 or be dropped! It was a hell of a challenge to finish outside the top 3 in order not to qualify for inter school race, but still play the next match.
