perhaps a playmaker type would help this. We won’t have to rely on playing counter attacking football either. That player could provide more opportunities for the likes of Bergwijn and Lucas in particular. It’ll be ****ing disappointing if we waste that money on Traore. But after the negativity around ESL debacle, and Levy becoming less popular with quite a number of fans in more recent months, I wouldn’t be surprised if we make this sort of signing as a way of “showing the fans”. It just baffles me how we can opt not to go players like tielemens and grealish, but be interested in a £40m+ player like Traore. As I said, I genuinely don’t understand the logic.
I had a sleepless night due to a totally knackered knee , so watched the City and Wolves games and agree that our priority must be in midfield , both games saw young Skipp over run with PEH doing much of what he did last season which was run about like a one armed paper hanger , in the Euro's he had a midfield round him so he could concentrate on his own roll, in this team he's trying to plug holes all over the park Skipl will be ok but we badly need a creative midfielder to control play going forward Our other priority is a striker assuming Kane stays , the defence hopefully improving when Romeo gets up to speed
Pretty sure i always see a double up and sometimes triple up on him. The reason they can do that is wolves are **** and slow at attacking generally imo. Theres also a reason moura and bergwign have slightly better stats. They can pass it to son to do a traore and bag or just loft it in the the box for Harry to win a header. The one season he had someone decent to aim for (2018/19 he barely played, 850 minutes, even lo celso manages more each season), he scored 4 and set up 9. I'm not going to count his stints at basketcase villa and boro because he was **** then and the clubs were beyond ****. I agree with everyone else though, you shouldn't even be looking at him, you have other needs and priorities and 40m for him even if you needed a winger is too much
No you’re right they do double up but I’m saying I meant it’s an exaggeration that he draws many players away as if other wingers don’t do that. Wolves even doubled up on Lucas yesterday and he was woeful. Wingers in general often get doubled up on so I’m saying it’s not a mutually exclusive thing to Traore. I’d say their stats are better also because I think technically and mentally they’re better players in the final third. In front of goal especially Lucas can be a real problem but he doesn’t go through on goal enough. Bergwijn showed when he first joined and his time at PSV that he can be potent in front of goal, last season he was poor and shot of confidence but I’m hoping he gets back to the level he can be. We’ve seen twice this season already that Traore bottles it in one on ones. Wide against Leicester and straight at Lloris yesterday. From a technical/ technique point of view I think he’s really poor and it’s why his crosses often hit the first man and his shooting is barely better than Sissoko’s. As for Lo Celso, he should in reality manage more, he’s a £42m so called playmaker. Though having said that, in his time at Spurs (when not injured) he’s more or less just been a minor upgrade on Winks with a bit more forward thinking and flair. Massive let down. Both he and fatso are the biggest flops in our history when looking at money spent and return. Expensive Argentinian Holtby.
So now we are inventing stuff to worry about before it actually happens. The pandemic has cost us about £200m. It wouldn't be surprising if that limited our spending. However it feels to me like we have a plan to cope with that. How will people feel if we sign everyone we need, keep Kane and win the league?
Why do people give Hojbjerg so much leeway. He just doesn't have the discipline to do his role. He creates holes, he doesn't plug them.
No I’m thinking of the what ifs, let’s be honest my situation is a millions times likely to happen than yours anyway. Bury your head in the sand if you want but I refuse to
None of us on here have any chance of influencing what happens to Spurs over the next few days so it's not a good use of my brain to worry about it. If something does happen my first thought will be to try to understand why the club acted as it did as they are much more likely to have got it right than me or indeed anyone else on here....unless one of you has secretly been Chair or Manager of a club that has won an important league.
Giving leeway would suggest he’s doing something/ a lot wrong but we’re overlooking or forgiving it. He doesn’t, in fact he does a hell of a lot right and without him in that midfield at the moment I don’t think we’d be sitting on two wins from two in the Prem.
There’s been some talk of emulating Liverpool and their more functional midfield with the creativity coming from width and the forwards. In that case PEH is our Henderson. At his best when he can use his energy to get around the pitch, break up play, and is similarly underrated on the ball. Whether Skipp can be a more defensive partner to add balance, or if he is a similar player is what we’ll find out this season. It might be that they dovetail nicely or it might be that we need to add a more specialist DM who is more positionally disciplined. I also think in this analogy that Alli adds more going forwards than most if not all of Liverpool’s CMs, with the exception of Thiago (in theory, though he’s been injured and has hardly pulled up trees as a result. A bit like Gio).
I think Hojbjerg and Skipp could be a really good pairing for similar reasons you’ve mentioned, they have similarities in that whilst they’re not destroyers like Wanyama, they have more of an all round game and I think it’s why we’ve especially seen Hojbjerg breaking forward a lot so far as he knows Skipp can cover. They need a creative player in front/ next to them though but in fairness to Dele he’s started the two games well. Though for me, we could be a lot better with someone who dictates a game. As of right now we’ve got three hardworking guys in the middle, two more on the defensive side, one more on the offensive side but they all chip in. In games we’re expected to dominate you can take Skipp out for the creator, in games we won’t you can take Dele out. Either way I do really think a creative presence is needed and whatever dough we do have, that should now be the priority above another CB/ RB and even another striker so long as Kane stays, we’d just have to play Scarlett more than we’d probably initially like.
100%. Perhaps we’d be thinking different if we’d not gone 18months without signing anyone and weren’t paying for it now? Seeing a signing as exciting as this kid who won’t play for us this season is such a kick in the nuts
Judging by what Metz's president has said, the options were buy low with a loan-back or buy now with a considably larger fee On the subject of Ligue 1 midfielders, Eduardo Camavinga's price has significantly dropped with him refusing a contract, with the asking price now €35m Don't suppose they need a new RB?
It's a repeat of the purchases of Sessegnon and Jack Clarke for over £40m, when we really needed first team ready players. We've already bought Bryan, who looks as though he's some distance off being capable of starting games in the PL. Now, we're adding someone who we couldn't play for us, even if he wasn't ready and we absolutely had to pick him... I trust nobody's still having problems with why the England captain wants to go and play elsewhere?
It’s annoying isn’t it. For me the club doesn’t learn when it comes to buying/selling players This was a huge summer and a lot of turnover was needed. We haven’t seen it at all and another season will come and go with an unbalanced squad which ultimately costs the team at the vital stages.
there’s still time, especially if Paratici has got all his ducks in a line. However, the volume of outgoings us fans have highlighted, as well as the incomings we’d subsequently need make this a monumental task in the final week.
We pretty much see the same every window though, lots to do in the last week, inevitably there will be a big name linked to get us all hyped, that deal will fall through for various reasons and then no alternative.
