Ally Gold is saying we’ll either sign a striker or Adama, likely due to financial restraints. If we go for the latter we need shooting. In the 15 or so minutes Kane was on yesterday we finally took charge of the game having been on the back foot, that central striker is crucial for us as they hold up the ball and get others into the game. If Kane isn’t available or needing a rest, we need someone who can do some of the basics like that, not another player who crosses to the first defender at every opportunity.
traore is far more dangerous than bergwijn and for me a much better upgrade. The amount of players that go over to him to mark him creates loads of space for others and he is far more able to skin his man everytime (and does) than bergwijn or lucas. Obviously his end product is awful. Still, probably not worth anywhere near 40m for such an unpolished player so i'm in agreement theres no point paying 40m for him. If it was a case of selling Bergwign and paying an extra 5m for Traore, that's a no brainer for me
I think we need a big strong CF like Llorente. Someone who we can stick up top and feed balls into. I'm surprised we haven't been linked with Weghorst, we are normally linked with him every transfer window.
Aouar Watch Xherdan Shaqiri is currently having his medical with Lyon Why is this relevant? Well, they're going to need to sell players to offset the cost...
I think that’s an exaggeration to be honest. Teams will generally double up on a winger. I don’t think Adama pulls any more players to him than most others, teams know they can’t really afford to do that. For all the times he beat Tanganga in the first half we had more than enough cover in the box dealing with his crosses. Personally I don’t think he’s more dangerous than Lucas or Bergwijn, he may be more exciting in the sense he can get people out of their seats but both Bergwijn and Lucas have better stats per game ratios than he does, which to me shows that despite not having the same level pace they actually do more with the ball and I’d say that is more dangerous to an opposition team.
I still think eventually they will offer what Levy wants and then he’s gone. I agree it shouldn’t happen now because it’s so late in the window and Spurs won’t be able to get a striker in (unless it’s a panic buy) but I still think it will happen Just wondering how fans will see the window if Kane is sold and the net spend (Spurs fans obsess over this) is minus
When is the cut off point before a player has had more than his chance? Most agree that it’s time for Ndombele to go after 3 years of abject failure with nothing more than ‘potential’ buying him more and more time and a lack of interest from other clubs of course. Bergwijn has had 2 years and he has been a disappointment…when is it time to go for him? Im sure we had a discussion recently about how we hold onto these type of players beyond their deserved time. id say Bergwijn has this season at most to prove himself.
HSBC and Daniel Powerspurs will be over the moon I’m guessing the rest I imagine will be pretty pissed.
Net spend doesn't bother me, it's who and how we spend whatever money we do. The money isn't mine so it's not a major concern for me - apart from when we went brain-dead and didn't spend a penny. As for Kane, selling our best player, especially now, would just be simply dumb by the club. We've made some very dumb decisions over the last 5 years so I'm praying we don't make another.
Bergwijn's only had 18 months. Adama's had 5 years and multiple clubs and still not produced anywhere near what he should have.
If we had the riches of city, we could afford to take a punt on someone like Traore to offer something different to the squad. But we don’t. £40m is money we simply cannot risk spending on a player where it’s very questionable whether he’d improve on what we already have. It’s hardly a position we massively need to be focusing on either. I just don’t understand the logic. Like others, all I see in Traore is a bloke that can run fast and scare the **** of out of the opposition, with no end result after the excitement he initially produces. Even if he was £15m I wouldn’t see the point in using the funds for him. An absolute sissoko of a signing. We need to be using that money to purchase a playmaker IMO. We’ve never replaced Eriksen and are in desperate need of someone with a brain who dictates the play.
One thing about the cutoff point is the money spent and the weekly wage do tend to make that point move closer for some players and further away for others In the case of Ndombele, having paid £55m to sign him and giving him £120k a week in wages means that it is reasonable for the club to have high expectations not just of on-field output but basic professionalism, which is why him being knackered by the 60th minute, regular weight issues and annual strops about wanting to leave have brought the cutoff point forward On the other hand, with Bergwijn we paid £26m on him and pay him £75k per week, which a decade ago would put him in the same bracket as Ndombele (after all, a decade ago people were demanding a lot more from Lamela because of what we paid for him) but when we signed him the fee felt like an £8-10m signing, although the wages are a tad contentious because, while nowhere near our top earners such as Kane, Son, Toby*, Lloris or Ndombele, and it does have to be said they do feel a little high for me, considering our baseline has risen to the point Ben Davies is getting £90k a week there's room for those to grow if he improves and remain where they are if he remains a squad option
Well run clubs don't sell their top goal scorer and best player in the last week of a window. At this point, it doesn't matter how much City offer or who the club think they could buy to replace Kane. It's too late and we should be confident that Levy will have none of it. We should be...
100% agree with this. Not got a single midfielder who can play a forward creative pass with genuine conviction.
Also, we’ve lost bale and vini’s goals. Evidence would suggest that Traore isn’t going to make up for that, yet he’d cost us a huge chunk of any budget we have. This rumour genuinely concerns me, actually. It feels like we’ve hit a dead end with other targets so we’re taking the easy option of trying to raid Nuno’s old club because he knows him.
I've seen mention of us offering a loan Highly unlikely Wolves would go for that, as Traore is their biggest asset and key to any rebuilding plans Oh well, fiddle-di-dee, I guess tomorrow is another day...
I'm done with Argentinian attacking mids, lol. Would've definitely taken him a couple years back but not sure he's what we need right now. I want someone a bit more creative, someone who can dictate a game like Eriksen or Modric could. I'd say Dybala's more like a prime Dele, looking to get on the end of things that Eriksen/ Modric would create.
I do worry about where goals are coming from this season. Take Son out the team and there is nobody (if Kane is sold) I feel that can regularly score
