I think this buzzed around on saintsweb last night and was found to have a bunch of flaws in the reporting for example the names were originally written incorrectly (or extracted incorrectly) leading to a suggestion that we were loaning Armstrong to the championship. Alan Nixon got called out on it and the tweet he was retweeting got deleted
I really don’t understand why we’re not in the market for a new Number 1. Yes we’ll look ridiculous with 3 high earning keepers on our books but I’d much rather spend the Ings money there than anywhere else. A keeper who can save shots, would be nice. One that can command his area even better and one that can use his feet would be the icing on the cake. I think it could be the difference between staying up and going down.
I agree - it must add tremendous pressure on and distract the defenders knowing that there’s a real chance the keeper will make a horlicks .
You’ve answered your own question. We can’t really afford it . The bigger concern is that we apparently offered contracts to both the current ones and Forster rejected but McCarthy might accept although I doubt we or anyone will be offering him what he wants
Of course it's not going to be accurate. It's from Alan Nixon. I don't understand why people (not you) have started quoting him again on here! We went through a nice few years of him being rightly ignored, but for some reason he's been popping back up on here over the summer.
Looking through the squads of the big clubs, Yangel Herrera & Claudio Gomes of Man City have not got homes yet. Lucas Torreira is an outcast at Arsenal, but will probably go back to Italy
Imagine selling Danny Ings, Jannik Vestergaard and Stuart Armstrong in one window It would be proof that the club is actually allergic to points.
Where is Armstrong supposed to be going? Saw Sheff United which would be pretty funny if it did happen
There was a murmur north of the boarder about Celtic's Ryan Christie possibly signing a pre-contract agreement with Saints. Based seemingly on nothing more than; we already nabbed an AM from Celtic and have just bought another Armstrong. The click desperado reporting the Christie rumour, added this imagined situation regards Stuart now 'ironically' being possibly surplus, to create an extra piece of Celtic intrigue for their Hoops readers.
I haven’t answered the question. I don’t understand why they feel walcott’s (for example) wages are a better use of money than getting an additional keeper. It’s about prioritisation but how can there be a bigger priority than a keeper without holes in his hands?
Strongly disagree. It’s our worst position and FF can go on a free next year. It’s a calculated question as to where we can make the biggest improvements. Can you say there’s an area of bigger weakness?
I really hope you aren’t an accountant then. Theo’s wages will get for of a use than having that money going out to a third choice goalkeeper who likely won’t play the entire season (be that McCarthy or Forster) We can’t afford to pay money for absolutely no return You also assume that we can get a new goalkeeper better than what we have for similar wages to Theo or McCarthy. That is not a guarantee
They were statistically the worst 2 keepers in the league last year. I think an improvement should be fairly simple. The cost of relegation is far greater than the cost of a keeper’s wages for one season. We won’t stay up if we concede 68 goals again
Good to see you only really addressed part of my response. We cannot and will not have 50-70k net (so more like 100k) a week go out the door on someone who will not play a minute. End of. That is 5m of actual cash flow. It is just accounting I appreciate the point that 5m is less than the amount lost from relegation but it simply is not that simple. There is no guarantee a goalkeeper replacement will make the degree of difference you suggest. And no guarantee keeping the ones we have mean relegation Also discussions of Theo’s wages are on point but what about the cost to bring in a new keeper. Sure Romero was free as well but when did he last play? There is a reason is best offer is Granada . If he was guaranteed to be good enough to be a starting premier league goalkeeper why did one of the promoted sides not go for him? If he is not better than Brentford’s goalkeeper then I don’t think we want him. Or if Wolves neglected to use him to replace Patricio and instead went for someone from the Greek league instead - do we want him?
