How many bad signings we had over the last few years? Waiting reduces risk.

How many top players have we missed out on because we didn’t take a risk on them? We’ll never know for sure and I’m not moaning about the signings we have made. But we obviously have to be smart with our spending and instead of spending £40m on Jota, we could have signed Haaland and Bellingham for same amount if we were braver?

But we knew exactly what jota was capable of, haaland and certainly Bellingham still had question marks over them.

It's all very well saying we should have signed him and him, but for every success, there are a 100 next big things that fizzle out.

Yup which is what I’m saying about risk.
We seem very very risk adverse when it comes to transfers. Which obviously has pros and cons. We know what we’re getting so transfers are likely to work out more then not. However we have to pay probably 50% more that we would have if we had taken an earlier risk.

Im not suggesting for one moment our signings are bad. Our recruitment has been great, all suggesting is would be nice to sign a highly rated young player with potential but has game experience who could come into the squad and develop over a season or two before replacing the older members of the squad.

We are certainly tight with the money, but in saying that we have seen that it works. I much prefer the model we have now of one or two signings per season that we are 90% sure will work than the scattergun approach we used to have.

We do buy a lot of youth as well, but rather than paying 20 million we pay pennies for a 16 year old, you'd hope we are getting them before they are even on the radar of any other club.

Transfers policy is always a gamble to a certain extent, at the moment we are doing very well, buying to strengthen the team, rather than buying the next big thing with no clue how they will fit.

I know you arnt disparaging the transfers we make, every one has the if only conversation, wonders why we didn't take a punt, especially when it cone to the likes of haaland when it seems obvious he was going to be a superstar.

100% agree that we are far better buying 1 player for £40m than 3/4 players for £10m. That was problem we had under Rafa having to spend little on many to bulk out squad but never really improved first team.

If Elliott, Gordon and few others turn into first team players then brilliant. The strategy of buying very young and developing is a great tactic.

I can’t moan too much about the transfers. Just would be nice to sign some younger players who can get straight into the first team for long term.

Hasnt rafa done exactly the same at everton? Random deals here and there.

Personally I would like to see klopp put a Lewandowski type signing I think that's really what you mean.

20 mil haaland when we bought minamino for 7.5mil says it all.

There is definitely a buzz you get from signing an exciting young player, watching him turn into something special.

To echo what people have said, we are risk averse when it comes to transfers. We will either sign players when they are really young for a couple of million (around the 16 year old mark) OR we wait for a target to be more established and prove themselves for at 1-2 years in a decent league

For this second option, we prefer to pay a premium for that player to have another season at top level to prove themselves before we pull the trigger. Now, the issue with that is that player could explode and attract a lot of attention which creates a bidding war. Unless that players explicitly states he only wants to join LFC and no one else, then we simply won't sign him because we're not interested in bidding wars. That's what will happen with Mbappe / Haaland etc.

    Yup.

As I said we want to see what the world can then see rather than really trusting the eyes and ears of scouts.

A player always has to step up, that is clear but he should be head and shoulders over who he is getting games against and if in europe (haaland) it should be clear enough.

Knowing if s guy can handle pressure and attention and that is great but there you go.

We are.more than willing grab 5 or 6 2million or less kids as we assume loans and sale fees will more than make it worthwhile.

We seem not willing to be wrong so miss out on being right.

Our squad is 75% there but players are aging and we will have to have a big window soon or we will fall off a cliff and it'll all end in tears.

Right now 1 or 2 more could become 5 or 6 needed very quickly.

    Origi out!
    Shaqiri out!
    Thiago aging
    Henderson aging
    Milner nearly done to overdone
    Mane slowly getting there 29.
Firmino needs a big season to show his not aging out 29 as well.

I'd still like us to bring 1 in.

Elliott for shaqiri is fine by me. Delighted a kid will work out (eventually)
Replacing origi now would be still my ideal before the end of this window

Daka and Doku were the 2 that seemed to fit us. Daka having played at Salzberg and Doku having been visiting club few years ago and seemed to be a wide option.

Even if were in for either, without moving on origi or Shaqiri can’t fit them in squad anyway

    Went to Dortmund.

Its what happens when you actually bid for players, they move to the bidding club
