Suggest you watch him playing for Hibs before you dig that hole any deeper.

He looks very good in the #9 position from what I’ve seen so far. Excellent hold up play, good movement and energy. Exactly what we needed.

His old manager at Motherwell, the man who coached him more than anybody else, said his natural position is a number 9. At City, he gets 10 minutes here or there on the wing in a 4-3-3.

The club keeps on talking about Scott as an asset and the money that they spent on him, yet continued to play him out of position. No wonder he wanted to head back North.

What next Baxter on the wing and Williams in goal?

    It’s madness.

Mcann obviously doesn’t rate Scott. Looks like he’s enjoying playing a proper number 9 roll. Was he given much of a run at City in that position definitely Not!

Pointless summising the likes of Smith (potential incoming striker) until we've seen him. I recall a young man coming in who we'd never heard of in 2007/08 who did rather well ! It's quite obvious to all that watch us that using Magennis as the proverbial battering ram isn't going to work at this level, but if we do employ this young lad will it stop us hitting aimless balls up front and into the box ? Do we have anyone cute enough to play the football required to get the best out of him ? Thudd, gorgeous George and Moncur aside we are a very workmanlike team, and would mean a bloody big change in McCann's tactics that's for sure.

He's probably just enjoying starting a game and getting more than 10 minutes!

I just checked and Hibs are winning and are due to go top of the SPL, with Scott playing as a number 9 in a 4-2-3-1…

Been watching Scott play on Sky on his debut - to be fair he's not being caught offside all the time, he's not constantly fouling or moaning at the ref and he's not losing the ball or passing into touch - having said that he's not doing much either

Sheffield United have spent fortunes on strikers over the last few years. McBurnie & Brewster are proven Championship strikers as are Sharp & McGoldrick.

You can have a whinge but as like most championship clubs, we can't afford a proven striker at this level. We could have taken a punt on somebody who's done it in the past, but they're extremely expensive and there's a very good chance they won't perform any better.

If you actually look into Smith, his numbers really aren't bad. He had 7 by the start of December and was Swindon's top scorer, Sheridan came in, said he wanted to play 1 up top and it wasn't him and he didn't play. Sheridan got sacked in April, he then got games and scored 3 more.

We should actually be pretty thankful for Sheridan, if he'd have been competent and played him, he'd probably have got close to the 15 goal mark, and Sheff United would be wanting a few million quid

Seriously have people watched Scott last season and this....??

Irrespective of which position he was in, poor first touch, slow, negative, sideways and backwards.... This loan is necessary because he was so far away from what we need him to be.

How is that relevant when there's an opportunity to bash the manager?

I watched him come on in the 85th minute played out of position last season when we were chasing a game.

Because he was out of position. It’s really not that complicated.

I’m pretty sure he was played as a 9 for us briefly and was weak as piss.

the manager and all his team will have played watched coached trained Scott in the number 9 in training and he clearly wasn’t up to it.

look kempton can play number 9 against a load of ten year old kids and Look great but get him against even 16 year olds and he’s ****.
    Same with Scott

if there was even a glimmer he could do it mcann would persist. He clearly wasn’t.

at times he had a great touch and he glided by players. Oh hello, then nothing came from it.
He probably wants to go home, unfortunately once a players mind is set that’s it.
Maybe he will come back and do it for us but my money is on not.

I'm not particularly bothered about arguing that Scott is brilliant or awful, but I think this is a good point; we often judge players as poor based on the odd sub cameo or League Cup appearance as part of a disjointed reserve side, which I think is unfair. He did bang in that lovely goal against Grimsby, and people will say it's only the FL Trophy, but that's all he was playing in so what else can he do?

I think you have to just reserve judgement on players in that position. For me, if McCann thinks he isn't ready to start games then fair enough, but equally when he says he's an asset and we still think he has a big future, I completely accept that too. McCann and the others at the club who watch him train are the only ones really qualified to judge him.

Cant have missed the McCann an out bunch on twitter?

... Or the ones accusing McCann of playing him out of position and not enough game-time.

He's had opportunities out wide and up top when he first arrived and has looked lightweight, off the pace and no where near challenging any of our regular front 3 for the shirt.
