Does anyone else think the standard of football in L1 is improving? I thought Wimbledon played some really tidy stuff.

Watching us live I didn't really appreciate some of our play but, watching it back, we're becoming a good side.

It's brave of Johnson to play 'proper football' in this league imo, matching other teams didn't work.

What's lacking is the crisp passing the system needs and that's down to confidence and practice that matches, and good results, will give you.

The players need to know how to read each other's game and only playing together can do that.

When we bring the ball out of defence the strikers need to feel sure their runs will be recognised and the wingers need to know that earlier crosses will find a target. McGeady and Gooch weren't great yesterday but they need runners, from midfield, to pass the ball inside to or players getting into the box. If that doesn't happen the wide players have to check back or delay the pass and lose the moment.

The win, yesterday, was important because defeats cause doubt and would slow down the process.

Just my opinion but if we get this working we can be playing Championship level football in L1.

The change in players like Winchester, Flanagan, Neil, etc, you'd think was from coaching which is a credit to the management.

And we have another transfer window, during the season, which may be really interesting ...

... even the doomiest of doom mongers must surely accept the future is looking bright.

Thought Winchester deserved his goal yesterday , would not like to think how many times his overlapping runs were ignored by Gooch who gave the ball away - when is his decision making and lifting his head going to improve.

Don’t know how many times the referee and linesmen didn’t muster a clue between them and then guessed what decision to give , the standard of officiating is really poor and dare I say it appeared to be very one sided.

There was another throw in decision on the East stand side that was hilarious. They didn't have a clue what side to give it to.

They did knock the ball about well without really penetrating the lines. Their two opportunities were the early Chislett one past the post and the late corner that Patterson lost and Cirkin cleared off the line.

Credit to us for denying them chances, they'd created loads in the 3 previous games.

If we’d started the season with 2 wins and 2 draws you’d have people buzzing saying we’re unbeaten and going great - 8 points.

    3 wins and 1 defeat - 9 points.

**** the draws of previous seasons. Far too many. Let’s just carry on winning games. We can take 2 wins and a defeat instead of a win and 2 draws. Points on the board, we need to be right up there all season.

Great to hear we on this thread are of similar views, for me we improved significantly when Geads and Pritchard were replaced, which allowed Neil (my vote for motm) to move into midfield. Loving it at the moment, long may it continue.

Gaffer has a big call to make in midfield when Evans is fit again. I like onien in midfield but Neil deserves his place and Evans is his skipper. Once Cirkin is up to speed and the RB is playing it will be interesting who gets the nod in midfield. A nice problem to have.

just watched the full 90, i can see and feel the frustration with gooch but he actually had/created our 3 or 4 best chances (goal apart, obviously) but he really needs to learn that final ball decision, plenty of times a pass is on and he holds on just too long.

neil was actually much improved at the back which says a lot as i thought he was doing a good job anyway, some lovely balls played by him and embleton, pritchard was a tad frustrating as well but he was always looking for that forward pass out to the wing and a few times he was not given an option...this, plus a few other occasions, showed the team is still learning each others game but to create so much and not be sat back as we have done has me thinking if/when it all comes together we will be some force in this league with the players that can move up with us.

final word(s) for winchester, bit-part player last season and LJ said once he got the players in we would see a 'better' player...from previous posts and my own thoughts it would be a disgrace if winch was not the first name on the sheet right now, also, Mr O'nien with his niggly play, covers some ground and breaks a hell of a lot up in and around the middle and many times that goes un-noticed by many.

Oniens contribution isn't spectacular for fans to watch but I bet his teammates massively appreciate the graft he gets through in a game. I like him in midfield and think he brings a lot to the team playing there

Was there any chat about why Cirkin wasn't playing? Was it just a fitness thing?
