That's all well and good but we sent one of our best prospects in C Jones to Morecambe and he's yet to get a sniff in the League. Sometimes it's worth sending them slightly below the level they're capable of playing it to guarantee mins. We had the chance to send Greaves to L1 but sending him to Cheltenham in L2 was definitely better as he got a lot more minutes. But I don't see the point in sending a player to the conference north
The National League North is a similar ability level to the U23s division he would be playing in anyway. It gives players a chance to be part of a men’s dressing room and compete against men instead of other young lads. It develops their game by allowing them to come up against experienced footballers instead of kids.
But why bother giving him a contract then? We've got Leake and Fleming both ahead of him in the pecking order. I completely understand in any u23 side that there's always players who are just fillers and don't have much chance making the grade but we've got plenty of young LBs. It's even more weird as he looked good in pre season
Because he earned it? Leake is only 18 and Fleming was injured for nearly all of last season and then caught Covid, so they probably felt like keeping him around was a sensible move in case something happened to Elder.
He has returned back to his first Polish club, I hope he gets some game time this season. It was a criminal waste by WBA last season not to play him.
I'd be shocked if it's Grigg, I don't even know if we could afford his wages and it's not the type of kid we sign. I've seen someone say Tyler Smith as a guess on Twitter, that seems a much more likely suggestion
Maybe the chance to play in the championship might swing it, quite surprise to find out he's never played above league one, reading Sunderland boards he's not the most popular of player's up there.
Why should we be trying to persuade some dosser who can’t get a game in League One to join us anyway?
According to Wikipedia, Will Grigg played 50 Championship games for Wigan, over two seasons (2016-7 & 2018-19), scoring 9 goals.
