I’ve just had a look into it, and there doesn’t appear to be any going back as far as 2013, other than Sess. as you say PS there’s a fair few that fall into the 20-23 age range, Dier being one of them. hopefully this Sarr kid is something special.
Over about 15 years we've had five successes....Lennon, Bale, Rose, Dele, Dier and about the same number of failures. For combined fees of about 40m including the failures we've had 5 players who would have cost us 250m at least to buy at their peak. Doesn't sound like any sort of disaster.
I was trying to avoid anyone that’s already reached 20-21, I.e Dier. From the research research I’ve done, it actually appears to be a decent hit rate. Who were the 5 in your list of failures? We’re they further back than 2013?
Dervite, Tarraabt, Bostock, Fryers and Yedlin. But checking those I should also have included Huddlestone and Walker in the successes and Naughton and Gunter in the failures. So about a 50:50 chance of winning big against losing small.
Must admit I knew nothing about Pape Sarr before he was linked to us but having read up and watched videos he looks an unbelievable talent. I hope he isn't loaned back because we need a player right now to rotate with PEH and Skipp that isn't Sissoko or Winks. If he is loaned back to Metz then we must sign a Nandez or someone similar. Unless we sign first team ready players in the next week or so then clearly this is all about the "rebuild" for the long term and this season to be competitive and challenge but knowing champions league is highly unlikely. If Kane does indeed stay, the money clearly isn't there to buy players 26 + entering their prime. Huge patience is going to be needed but the least we can expect is to have a young super fit squad (ala Leeds) that plays good football and we can see a plan in place.
Must have money to throw about if we can spare some for players that may or may not appear in a league cup game in 2025 against Oldham Athletic especially when there is an urgency for funds to improve the first team right now due to the pandemic and no fans etc etc blah blah blah.
I know nothing either, and have done the same as you. Any player can be made to look good on YouTube, so we should never get carried away. But after seeing what he’s capable of and how desperate we are for some new blood, I don’t wanna see him loaned out, either. Out with Ndombele and in with Sarr. Kid’s got a hell of a free kick on him as well. if we don’t sell Kane this year, he’ll be gone next summer, so I just want to see us progress as much as possible in this window with the rebuild so we haven’t got as much to deal with next year.
****ing do it. I don’t even know how good McKennie really is as I’ve only seen him briefly (looked ok, wouldn’t say amazing) but just getting the lazy mess and his huge wages off the books is a win for me.
Yeah I think everyone’s just hoping for some progression after years of regression. I’m not even hoping for miracles either, just “sensible” decisions (unlike Thursday night!), some team cohesion and I’d say getting rid of deadwood is a bigger priority for me than any signings. I don’t overly like the squad we have but if we can just shift around 4 more (Winks, Sissoko and Ndombele especially) then I’ll at least begin to feel positive knowing we’re cutting loose the anchors that are weighing the club down.
Yeah saw that, glad we actually done that one as it goes, Tolisso’s been very injury prone at Bayern. Would be sod’s law we replace a fat mess with a central midfield Lamela.
Outgoings are clearly the reason for the lack of incomings. I genuinely thought there would be movement this week, and it’s disappointing that another week has passed. It’s also a kick in the nuts that the only deal that looks like it’s getting closer is for an 18 year old… who will be getting loaned back. .
Like I said a few days back I think the final week is gonna be mental. Not just for Spurs but football in general. I reckon clubs will concede they won’t sell for top dollar and essentially have fire sales on deadwood in the hope to raise whatever they can whilst also being open to lesser offers for players they’re not exactly desperate to shift. There is the worrying issue though of idiots like Winks (and I’m sure other players at other clubs) refusing to leave even when they’ve been told they’re **** and not wanted. Hopefully they can finally be persuaded closer to deadline, especially if their club does bring in another player or two in their position making them realise their only chance of regular game time is with the U23s and so then finally agree to go. I live in hope with that anyway, lol.
Sissoko is being linked to Fenerbahce ...by the always-reliable Turkish press please log in to view this image Meanwhile, still no concrete rumours about Aurier leaving, which deserves only one response please log in to view this image
If it is a loan back deal as has been reported this first payment is probably not due till next summer.
Teams should propose loan swaps of their dross in the hope that the change of league or scenery brings about improvements. At worst they come back after their stint away.
