Yes and I think we should be looking for a centre mid. Relying on JWP/Romeu/Diallo leaves us very exposed
We still have one loan slot. Perhaps the talk of business is about permanent signings. And some options might arise in this space nearer deadline day
RE: Lyanco. Leeds, Sporting and Lille were quoted £9m last season. "The 23-year-old defender, who has previously had a loan spell with Bologna, is a Brazilian under-23 international and considered a top young talent. However, he has struggled to establish himself as a consistent first-team regular in Turin. He did however feature 18 times for the club last season in a number of different positions, including left-back and holding midfield. But it is at centre-back where Lyanco would likely be used at Leeds, with the Whites looking to replace Ben White and looking for further coverage with Gaetano Berardi’s situation unclear and inj ured regardless."
So when Tom Leach at Hampshire Live talked about how this was our last first team signing and that we also wanted a B Team left back - it apparently came from an interview with Ralph Worth noting Ralph also said he wanted a number 6 in interviews And also I have mentioned before it is far from a guarantee what we would announce our desperation for a player in position X or Y in an interview. If anything it could even be the opposite - a signal to a club that might really want a sale that we are prepared to walk away It might be clutching at straws of course . But I for one see no reason not to fill the second loan slot . Loan slots happen quickly on deadline day (and usually only loans due to time and legal requirements for permanent moves) when clubs want to try and get some people off the wage bill For example I wouldn’t be surprised to see Long leave on deadline day. He didn’t even make the bench last week when we had no true strikers on it so he clearly not in the club’s plans
Southampton are hoping to complete a cut-price deal for Celtic's Scotland midfielder Ryan Christie, 26, whose contract expires in January. (Sun)
January is a strange time for a contract to expire? EDIT - the same article says signing him depends on whether S Armstrong leaves, so doubt it’s accurate.
I think there isn’t anything in SA going, but wouldn’t mind upgrading at attacking mid, and think Christie would be an upgrade on most our options we have. I did wonder if someone would come in for Redmond, the romantic in me thought of Norwich, and I think he is better than our ‘all fart, no ****’ Moussa. Put simply, I think we need a few more goals from midfield and not sure what we will get from Theo, Moussa, Nathan, even JWP and Stuart A.
