Hi guys I hope you don’t mind me visiting - it’s been a while. I understand that you guys are interested in signing Josh Brownhill from Burnley. No, I’m not a weirdo fan of another club with an obsession with Leeds - I’m simply interested because Brownhill is an ex-player (and captain) of ours who served us well and we we didn’t replace. There’s also the small matter of a sell-on fee which would help us because we are still confined by FFP down here in the Championship. Would he be a popular signing do you think? Congratulations on your promotion btw - well deserved.
I actually rated him highly in the Championship for you boys. Always thought he could play higher than Championship. However, I think he might have found his level in and around mid to bottom end of the PL. Don't want to sound too big headed but the owners and directors (and obviously us fans) are looking to compete for Europe over the couple of seasons and I don't think he could take us there. Granted he might be good for us short term though. I don't think this will happen.
I seem to remember him playing against us the once for you and was probably the best player on the pitch, surprised when he signed for the anti football at Burnleh because he looked a decent ball player. We really need midfield reinforcements but no idea if he'll improve us , as don't recall seeing him play in the Prem. We have to trust Bielsa's judgement, though today he said it is very unlikely we will sign any more players, no idea if that's a smokescreen or not. How do you think your lot will get on this season, always seemed to be knocking under Johnson, falling away at the end?
Brownhill, a decent player, doesn't quite strike me as a Bielsa Baller who will come in and improve the team ... Bielsa's mantra has always been only sign players who are better than those we have, unless they're young talent for U23s ... then again, Bielsa may have seen something that he can improve in Brownhill ... thing is, he's never been on the radar at all, and with Leeds' commitment to keep transfer targets confidential, I am surprised Brownhill is being spoken about as a new signing not sure how your club is set up regarding losses right now, big money spent on developing Ashton Gate and not too shy on player wages either, so missing out on promotion must have hurt ... wrong manager after the little un left didn't help at all
Here’s one article: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...arebar&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sharebar and another: https://tbrfootball.com/report-leed...ated-midfielder-that-marcelo-bielsa-admirers/ Brownhill was highly rated by LJ and was probably (after Webster who went to Brighton) LJs best signing. He was our captain and leader. Many saw the value in him but I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t - until he left. As for us; we are in a weird position of having a rich chairman (Steve Lansdown) who isn’t allowed to spend his money due to FFP. He’s tried to build a sustainable organisation at Ashton Gate but football is so expensive he’s finding it difficult. He also seems (up until Pearson’s appointment) not to want to hand complete control over to a manager who will spend his money for him. Pearson is a respected manager with a pedigree and if left to build his own team I really think we could be joining you soon - but it really depends on how much freedom he is allowed. To-date we haven’t set the league alight but we are only 3 games in and apparently performances have been encouraging.
Yeah - but last season was terrible and we only just survived. This season it's too early to predict. As I said earlier, we haven't really set the league alight (4 points from a possible 9) but it's too early to spot a trend. Nigel Pearson is a very respected football manager who has 'been there and done it' with Leicester, so there's an optimism here now which there wasn't under Holden or the end of Johnson's reign. We've also had a big change of structure - the extremely unpopular Chief Operating Officer Mark Ashton has departed to Ipswich, along with his medical team (injuries were a huge problem for us over the past few seasons). This means that Pearson will have much more control over transfers than LJ or DH did before him. Steve Lansdown is also exploiting his ownership of Bristol Sport (he owns the Bristol Bears Rugby club and the Bristol Flyers basketball teams) and he uses them to 'tiptoe' around the FFP - charging them for the use of Ashton Gate facilities, which can then be classified as 'income' for Bristol City, thus releasing more funds for the football team within FFP. He then reimburses the Rugby and Basketball teams their costs, because those sports aren't governed under an equivalent of FFP. All in all we are quite optimistic. Top 6 this season is probably unrealistic - this season will be a 'settling in' period for Pearson whilst he builds his side, but despite what @Oldsparkey says (bless) I really think we could finally, at long last, come knocking within a couple of seasons. Good luck guys - and PLEASE sign Brownhill
Well it's been very nice talking to you elite after all this time, but I really must fly. I've got to get my head around the one Championship game on the box tonight - now who do I want to win?.... I know it's of no relevance to you, but what do you think eh?
I would expect you to wish for a horrible scrappy 0-0 with a big melee on the pitch and crowd trouble off it. Multiple red cards leading to bans and long-term injuries to key players - and a massive fine and possible points deduction for both sides for failing to control their players and supporters.............
