I wrote a few weeks back about our insistence to play 433 and how of the only 2 teams to employ the system successfully in recent years, there was not much point looking to emulate a team with a bottomless pot of gold, which left Liverpool. I said at the time that Klopp eventually abandoned his search for a deep lying creative midfielder, instead favouring grafters as his midfield 3 and switching the creative onus onto his FBs and attackers. By utilising players like Milner, Fabinho, Wijnaldum and Henderson in midfield, Klopp knowingly sacrificed creativity but in turn their workrate allowed TAA and Robertson free reign to wreak havoc down the flanks and essentially absolved Mane and Salah of most defensive duties. That may well be the system Nuno is leaning toward. I think we saw the beginnings of it against City, when Lucas and Bergwijn worked really hard but certainly weren't anywhere near as deep as they had been under Maureen, whereas Dele was clearly under instruction as the 3rd CM to work his socks off and help out as much as possible defensively. If we can find a right footed clone of Reguilon, we'll be very, very close to Pool in terms of overall squad composition and team chemistry.
The sun online are claiming spurs are looking silly by not accepting bids on Harry Kane cos we ain't playing him. Unfortunately, there was no space left to suggest that a certain paper, who had a back page WORLD EXCLUSIVE headline of KANE JOINS CITY DEAL DONE FOR £160m, (this was over 4 weeks ago) are now desperate for this sale to happen as they would look like utter mugs if it doesn't. Not sure which paper it was though
im really hoping Tanganga can be that man. If not, I’d like to see us bin off both Aurier and Doherty, and sign someone who is ready made. Then at least we’ve got Tanganga who can cover, as well as play CB if needed. The only problem is the left hand side if Reguilon doesn’t play…. Son at WB? Edit: Sessegnon! Forgot about sessegnon!
I think what's really beginning to annoy me now is that Kane may actually break Jimmy Greaves' scoring record; a guy who fell out of love for the game because Bill Nicholson prematurely shipped him out
So for some reason there's a lot of headlines bouncing about this morning saying we're pressing ahead with deals for Tomiyasu and Nandez...
Football needs temporary set piece substitutions. We can then have Harvey White come on every time we get a corner or free kick. I’m gonna press ahead with that actually, get a yougov petition thing.
Isn't that what England regularly did in international tournaments when taking an obviously injured Beckham?
Why stop there? How often has it been the case that a player is brought down and whilst they're receiving treatment off the pitch, the opposition, now with a numerical advantage, go and score?
Sky and The Mail are saying we sent scouts to watch Madueke the other day (which we kinda guessed after the picture that circulated) and are interested in signing him but may prove difficult due to the fact he’ll cost around £30m-£40m. Ally Gold has also said Fabio’s trying to ditch some of the dross but it’s proving difficult, which is then affecting any potential incomings.
Various reports say that Sanchez has been given a vote of confidence by Nuno and will stay for the season Given the first reports were from the Colombian press, and Sanchez's agent has a track record of blabbing to them, there's likely something to it
We all knew it wouldn’t be easy to get rid but that’s why he was hired and earning millions isn’t it, to find a way to get rid of unwanted players. So far he’s failing.
Surely his job is to bring players in. The manager will identify the players he wants rid of and the only thing Pariticci and Levy can do is pitch the selling price right. Not sure selling players is a skillset many DoFs will possess.
