Burton beat us on Saturday with 1 shot on target.

To do that, they needed their goalkeeper to make no mistakes, he did that.

That’s why they got 3 points on Saturday, and we didn’t get 3 points against hull..

    Onto the Bristol rovers mistake?...

    All goalkeepers make mistakes.

But it’s the amount of mistakes that separate the good ones from the poor ones.

Coventry knew burge was a poor one, even at this level, that’s why they let him go.

You missed the point out that they also got the 3 points because our forward line made plenty mistakes, their clean sheet wasn't 100 % down to their keeper not making any mistakes.
Burge didn't put a foot wrong but we still got beat.

I remember being at Maine Rd in 1973 when we played Man City in the cup. One Jimmy Montgomery punched a corner into his own net. Two rounds later in the final he made the save of a lifetime to win us the cup. My point being is I’m pleased we didn’t get rid of the lad when he made a mistake. Keepers making mistakes like all others on the field mistakes come with the territory….

    That's nonsense.

Is it Burge's fault that our most experienced player missed an easy chance to score at 0-0?

As for the Hull game you keep ignoring the fact that we had over an hour to score at home and barely troubled their keeper.

Why do you keep ignoring the facts?

Im not blaming burge for Saturday, so not sure what you are going on about there?

Hull were one of the best sides in the league last season. You can’t honestly expect to start 1-0 down and then easily turn it round to beat them, just because we are at home and have an hour to do it in <laugh>

Probably best to leave it there, the way we view football is worlds apart.

Just like to make a few points that I feel are pertinent to this discussion.

All players are capable of making mistakes.

Goalkeeper's mistakes are more obvious because they are more likely to lead directly to conceding a goal.

    Football is a team game.

A game of football consists of hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny, interrelated events, all of which effect what happens next in some way.

These events occur within a window of slightly more than 90 minutes, giving the opportunity for any mistakes to be rectified.

It therefore seems ridiculous to me that one player, out of the 14 from one team which may be involved in the game, can be blamed for losing points. A player can be blamed for the concession of a goal but that doesn't automatically lead to the dropping of points. Furthermore, most 'errors' by any one player are usually the result of a particular set of circumstances.

Yes, some goalkeepers are better than others. Some will concede fewer goals than others, giving you a greater chance to not drop points. But to blame one player for dropping points is to miss at least one of the fundamental aspects of the game.
