Look at the state of the area round the MKM; George pub closed & trashed on Walton St corner,. Anlaby Road stubbornly refusing to join in the COC2017 and still declining- are we the only club in the country where a new stadium has failed to kickstart the immediate vicinity? Question for you: what do you think is the Council's approach to their relationship with the Allams? (My impression is they secretly hope City and the Allam Family fail, and that they basically shrug their shoulders and let it all fail. I know comrade Hale was in the E concourse last Sat - no idea why, Why don't the Council get Alan Johnson involved? Charm the family, build bridges, nurture the relationship, get AJ acting as a go between, flatter their egos as they appear to enjoy being associated with politicians and attempt various ploys to get them onside again. They have shown they are capable of U turns, and often unpredictably so. It's in everyone's interests to get the relationship to work, Geraghty is long gone and maybe AA needs reminding of this. How about inviting AA and his wife to the Guildhall for a private slap up meal to extend the olive branch? There are a thousand ways.....why is it assumed the Allams have to change their modus operandi (and not the council)? )
So you're saying the Council should spend money on the surrounding area?...that's it? George closing is capitalism for you, supply and demand etc, I'm afraid. It is fair to say they've spent more on the city centre to attract people to the City which seems sensible I think, but that's a judgement call I guess. AJ doesn't work for the Council, and I doubt he'd want to, he's busy on other Boards developing/building property. I imagine there are plenty of new stadiums that haven't been the catalyst for development. I don't know the Council's approach to the Allams, I don't work for them. I do know they have had meetings at very senior level with them in recent years and as far as I'm aware treat them very respectfully.
West Brom interested in taking Daryl Dike on loan from Orlando City. Was on loan at Barnsley last season and scored 9 in 19. I'd take either Gray or Dike on loan at City in a flash.
I'm aware of most of all that, and some of your response is disingenuous, esp. the regen stuff I'm also aware AJ doesn't work for the Council - but do you think he could do a good job on their behalf ?That;s the issue. They treat them respectfully?. We're not measuring effort, we're measuring achievement.. It's easy to knock the Council- and most of the time they make it easy.
Thinking regen is all about the Council spending money on Anlaby Road How about courting investors ,. attracting them, offering them incentives to invest etc- not just throwing ratepayers money at it.
What does 'get them onside' actually mean in practice? With what? For what? And that surely contradicts your last sentence (as you appear to be suggesting that it's the Allams that need to get onside i.e change their modus operandi)? BTW, the 'especially GFAW' comment made me smile I can't remember the exact timing, but at that time, yes the penny probably hadn't yet dropped with me that they were opportunist, lying, arrogant ****s who were only in it for, and only bothered about, themselves.
Good sensible post. I was in a pub in Hull City Centre on Saturday before QPR. Man U v Leeds on the telly, pub packed out, about ten of those were actually going to watch a live game that day, namely City. The rest were chanting and singing as though they were on the terraces. They were getting their football fix in the pub. Asked one fella walking about in a Leeds shirt why he feels he has to wear it in a pub in Hull and why he doesn't support Hull City ? His reply ? It's full of glory seekers ! The ****ing irony of it. I hope someone from the club reads your post City Man before it's too late.
Largely… arf I have no idea or interest in finding out but a posted just said they signed dike on loan and he scored 9-19 so I wonder how many others they signed.
Gerrem onside= open their minds, make them more receptive, less hostile, make them feel appreciated , stroke their egos, try to persuade they have common interests in success. The Allams need to change too. Someone needs to be the bigger man instead of this childish arm wrestle
Talking to a lass on Monday, on train back to Hull from MCR, the conductor got off at Leeds and the train was cancelled to the grief he was getting from football fans heading east. The next train to Hull from Leeds had the MUFC in one compartment and the Leeds in another. All been to MCR to 'loyally' support their teams Nearly all the MUFC got off at Brough, and the vermin went through to Paragon . Woefully inadequate little men with no pride or self-esteem.
It's also untrue that they didn't strengthen last season. In addition to signing Dike on loan in January whose 9 in 19 record is quite an impact in 6 months, they signed Dominik Frieser, Michał Helik, Callum Brittain, Herbie Kane and Carlton Morris. All of them were crucial in them reaching the play-offs. Frieser, Helik and Brittain in particular were all signed for transfer fees and all played more than 40 league games last season for Barnsley. It's just incorrect to say the Barnsley team that survived by the skin of their teeth in 2019-2020 is mostly the same team that finished sixth last season.
I know Alan Johnson did voluntary work as a go-between with the council and the club after that horrendous first meeting between Assem and Geraghty because Johnson told me himself. He tried, more then once but no-one was listening. The damage was done.
