Quite reassuring, the win has given him a bit of wind in his sails. Still think we have a lot of work to do in defence, but thought our creative play was a lot better tonight..
Thought you'd be over excited!! Much better and when we pressed we looked good...but we allowed them to get back in it and it was hard work towards the end.... Apparently they had quite a few players out...........but hey...a big improvement and at last a win.....first since March....let's not get to carried away..
The difference really was playing Weimann as a 2nd striker because he is at his best in the 6 yard box and not 10 yards out coming on to a ball (because he often lacks composure in those positions) he will score goals if played in that position forward position, I cannot believe that successive managers keep playing him as a right sided midfielder it a nonsense. I like King because he is creative and has a goal in him but he looked leggy tonight from the start.
Yeah, I thought King took quite a while to get into the game. TBH I forgot he was playing until 15mins in.. Weimanns 2nd goal was full of composure, hit it first time and the keeper saves it.. really good goal and unlucky not to get hat-trick
Good interview and spot on, especially his view that we played better against Blackpool and should have been out of sight and that we dropped 3 points because of poor game management especially by 2 players.
@oneforthebristolcity I hope you understand what I have always been saying about Weimann, let midfielders play in midfield and pick up midfield runners and assist defensively. Leave Weimann up front to be a pest for 90 minutes and a danger in the 6 yard box, leaving defenders to worry about his pace and persistence, I thought tonight overall Pring backed up DaSilva defensively really well and covered when DaSilva went forward and possesses a good cross himself. I thought Scott backed up Simpson well tonight and Simpson (apart from his blip with Pring) for their first was better defensively than Vyner ha been so far this season.
Looks like Pearson is up for changing things around when needs must.....If he wants Weimann to accommodate say, Wells & Martin..I can see him sitting behind.. Not saying that's right but I can see it happening against certain sides.. Look what he did with Baker tonight, never played there before apparently!!
It's not right, Wells has not been a success, 15 goals in 65 games is pretty poor for a striker of his repute. I believe that Weimann would have scored more had he been played up front far more for us. He will always give 100% that's a given but for me he comes alive when playing as an out and out striker, I would rather see Martin as the number 10 (if needed) he links play better than Weimann, if we sign Smith from Rotherham (a player who took us apart twice last season) I think he could be the perfect foil for Weimann with Martin in the number 10 role. Smith scored tonight as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed the match and the 3 points but why do we play Jekyll and Hyde and give me heart flutters? The good bits were incredible and gave me hope for the future but then we went back to our old ways it gave me a feeling of deja~vu all over again. Please give me more of the nice stuff and I’ll cheer harder ~ promise.
HNM was too far behind Moore to take the chance with a professional foul. He would of had to come from behind the player and slightly out of timing could of been seen as a reckless challenge leading to a red.
I haven't read anywhere about Kalas wanting a move. Please share if you know more. Not sure about needing a striker more than losing Kalas. City scored 3 away from home last night and I know one swallow etc but for me the build up/creative play was better. Imo I think that's where our problem has been, Harry Kane wouldn't have scored for us last season. Last night may have been a one off. It may be genuine improvement. I hope it's the latter.
Great result lads and Nige ! So glad my prediction of the result was predictably wrong ! I really hope we can kick on and build on this result and performance starting on Friday
Not sure if I've taken a dodgy batch of tablets...but I agree with RP's last comment.......think I need to isolate, it could spread!!
As I said earlier; great win and well done to them. They almost threw it away though - according to Sky Reading were absolutely battering us for the last 15 minutes!
We did get away with it for a bit, was even possible they could have had a pen, (handball Kalas) which would have been harsh (i've seen them given), I think we did enough to deserve the points.....hopefully we gain a bit of confidence and progress on!
I said exactly the same last year about Harry Kane not being able to score for us over the past 2 seasons. But several on here claimed that we had a decent squad of players, which was not the case. As for not needing a striker Wells has scored 15 goals in 65 games and one poster believes he misses hatfuls of chances. Pearson said last night and I 100% agree, we played far better against Blackpool and were in full control until the last 10 minutes and were undone by 3 missed very presentable chances and crappy game management especially by 2 individuals. Even on Saturday when we never played well having gotten back into the game, we should have gained a point but again were undone by poor individual mistakes and another poor miss. Of course we need a striker it is a huge priority. As for Kalas if you believe he is happy then fine, without knowing the specifics, what I do know is that him and Pearson have definitely clashed on 2 occasions and one them was for wiping out one of his teammates in a training game, there is another rumour circulating and ROD eluded to it on Saturday and if true and if it is Kalas that is involved, it certainly would make life difficult. There is a twitter rumour claiming he has privately asked for transfer. But all of that is a side show, even if none of the above were true, do you think he would not take a move into the prem or a potential top 6 team for a higher wage? He is a footballer and like all footballers could potentially be kissing a different badge tomorrow or next week and preventing him from leaving as with the aforementioned Harry Kane is not an option. Apparently his contract runs to 2024 so running it down is probably not an option. PS:- Until Pearson mentioned that Nagy had requested a move, there was nothing to read about that but plenty of speculation ala Kalas.
I think the whole squad are decent otherwise NP would have moved them on like the rest of the charlatans that were ripping off our club, you never know there might be 1 or 2 still to go.
And quite a few are gone, not the indication of a decent squad in my book, the problem is and has been since 2019 is consistency, that is what we need + a competitive midfield and hopefully we have that and can work on the consistency.
