Was funny looking over the road at the comments such as "**** positioning from Burge" etc. Was **** all he could do as it was a great strike

Burge was fine last night. A couple of times in the first half he was glued to his line but nothing major. Absolutely nothing he can do about the goal.

Let's put this to bed once and for all. Let's track "the number of points he costs us" this season.

    Wigan (h) - 0 pts. Total 0. Rest of team 0 pts. Total 0.
MK Dons (a) - 0 pts. Total 0. Rest of team 0 pts. Total 0.
    Burton A (a) - 0 pts. Total 0. Rest of team 3 pts. Total 3 pts.

Rather just focus on the mistakes he makes or doesn't TBF. It's not purely on points alone, MK for example. His error flipped the full momentum of the game.

Have you misunderstood the post or something? How can Burge have cost us points when we got 3?

Nope. The constant complaint from certain posters has been "how many points he costs us". That's the focus of their argument - let's see if it holds water. And your "goalkeeping error" might be someone else's "defensive howler".

Doesn't make sense to me. So if he makes a couple of mistakes a game, costs us 2 goals but we score 3 then your methodology would show Burge as the perfect keeper ?

Not for me, doesn't make logical sense or will provide valid conclusions to his ability.

But if he makes a few top saves in those games doesn’t that even itself out? Against MK he won us the points with his save

In general I'd say that a keeper can make up for a howler by doing something equally exceptional like saving a penalty or pulling off a jaw dropping save. Making a few good or great saves in a game doesn't quite balance it out for me, that's just a good keeper doing their job.

Excellent? Did he honestly have a single save to make ? I am sure they had one shot on target and it was a goal. Wasn't anything he could do with it like. But not excellent, just normal stuff.

Their keeper was excellent. MOTM performance, many top top saves.

Keeping isn’t just about saves though. He controlled his box and 3 or 4 times got out of his box to stop a Burton attack. There was also a fizzed cross which was very well handled by him.

Eye if the beholder I suppose but he had a good game IMO

For me it was literally the absolute minimum I expect from a keeper last night. The bare minimum.

As I said, their keeper was truly a difference maker.

His handling from some very difficult crosses was faultless as was his distribution and decision making.

I thought he did alright last night - he does have good games, but also makes too many mistakes and is inconsistent.

    #159
  20. If we accept he can't be at fault for their goal, Burge competently dealt with everything which came his way last night, which is all any keeper can do,and he shouldn't draw any criticism for his performance.
