I totally agree mate, I know McGeady is a match winner but there are games where about can tell its not going to happen for him. This is when LJ has to be brave enough and take him off to change things around. I understand that he can win you a game in an instant but you can also tell when he's not going to
Agree. Think that's why Broadhead was signed too. Cover any of the FW positions. Geads should of hand a couple first half. That said, he is a great pro and sets the highest standards of himself and others around him. Will be furious about the missed chances and will probably hold himself responsible for the loss. Guessing that will mean a masterclass level of performance on Saturday.
Disappointed with the defeat but we will play worse than that and win games this season. It was just one of those games where the ball wouldn’t go in the net, luck was the difference really. Glad there’s another game in a few days, hopefully we can get this one out of our system quite quickly.
We keep playing like this, i'm happy enough. This team will only get stronger and more confident. It's only one defeat, we move on.
The writing was pretty clear in his first few games and culminated in those two Wembley appearances, he has never wanted to be here other than to pick up the fortune he was handed, and who can really blame him. As for the team, I think we need a sniffer like Micheal Bridges not another AoB or Scowen type. I also honestly think we will struggle with McGeady Embleton and Gooch supporting Stewart, it doesn't look like a natural fit to me.
It needs to be as he has struggled this season to impact on any game so far apart from his well struck penalty, flicks and tricks are great when your four up not when the game is in the balance, it only spurs the opposition on imo.
I like all three players individually (all can be frustrating too!) but agree we need “something different “ in there.maybe Pritchard for one? Never said you were wrong, but didn’t know just how right you were about Dan Neil! He is such a good passer of the ball. Sees things not many at this level do and always looking to create. Needs o’nien next to him to give him a bit of freedom as he wasn’t as comfortable at the weekend as he looked last night. But what a player
How long before his “wish I hadn’t renewed” and “I’m not renewing next season” probably never been to a Sunderland match in his life man!
Monty has been posting on here since time began and, as @Saff says, is part of the furniture. He's a little bit enigmatic as he doesn't always engage directly and he's often overly critical. When he's right, he's right though. He's actually one of my favourite posters and I've no doubt he's a lads fan. Certainly not a mag.
Oh you’ve not seen half of it yet mate. what amazes me is, after a very good performance and poor result, most of our, what I would call “negative” posters, are feeling positive about the way things are going. That is a massive shift from last few seasons.
It's League 1 for you, played better than we did I our previous 2 games imo but came away with nowt. Who'd take a ****e performance but 3 points? I'm in.
Look back over my posts last 3 seasons!! I’ve said exactly that. I’d take another 43 ****e performances and 129 points ahead of getting relegated playing superb football!! That said, I do think we’ll win more than we won’t playing like we did last night!
Dan Neil was absolutely class last night, he's been quality every game upto now. I dont want to criticise Johnson too much, but he hasn't just turned into this player over the summer. Why the feck was he not getting picked last season over the likes of Scowen and Leadbitter? He could have made the difference in us getting promoted or being where we are now. If you add Embleton to the equation aswell we would have been a completely different team last season, and its hard to see how we wouldn't have got promoted. I know people keep saying saying Embleton to Blackpool has made him a better player etc, but he could have become the player he is now with us by staying last season, and scoring and creating goals like he did for Blackpool who are now a league above us? Its just makes you think abit what could have been when you see them 2 this season
It's all a bit speculative mate. Players, particularly young players,do develop...some quickly....Dan Neil could easily have become a stronger, better player this season over last season especially with a constant first team squad involvement during pre season. Similarly, many believe we're getting something better from Embo because of his Blackpool loan, not in spite of it,which may not have happened if he'd have stayed here. They have both moved up and LJ is doing exactly the right thing by playing them now.
The Embleton debates been going on for months so i won't get into that again. Personally i think loaning him out last season was a big mistake, but thats just my opinion. Neil on the other hand was part of our squad all of last season. You cant tell me he's spent the last 2-3 months on some kind of specialist training program thats suddenly made him a better and stronger player. He obviously just needed game time and a chance to show what he can do. Johnson just wanted to play safe though and stick with more seasoned pros like Scowen and Leadbitter. Im glad he's finally seen sense now and giving him a chance.
