why do you always look to 30 years ago? That doesn’t provide any context or add anything to the conversation…….
Some City fans do, plenty of bitter Hull fans do. By no means all do. People were queuing up to get their pic taken with him last Saturday.
For the benefit of our younger posters who would not have known who you were talking about let alone the incident. The image that springs to mind regarding Currie is not of him getting friendly with another footballer, which is the one for some people, but of him attempting to cripple a young Roger DeVries early on in the Battle Of Bramall Lane. A disgraceful tackle.
More than 30 years ago as a kid I used to get given the away match programmes from Pete Whitfield. Still got some of them.
It adds plenty to the conversation if you've followed City for any length of time. The post was a reply to a couple of earlier one's claiming that Hull City are an 'empty shell of a club'. My reply was tied in with the mentions of ex Hull City reporters and one of the worst, in my opinion was the fat twat I mentioned because he was 'reporting' when we were not only an empty shell of a club but at the foot of the football ladder, unable to pay our way, playing from a three sided ground that had criminally been left to rack and ruin by the owners. On top of that we were watched by about 3,000 diehards. The reporter mentioned never questioned anything that was going on at the time even though at least one of the club's owners was a convicted fraudster and eventually finished up in jail. In comparison the club we have today is not 'an empty shell'. Does that provide enough context for you to chew on ?
no to be honest… all in the past that you love to reveal in. That proves my point. I think you prefer the past the Fer Ark era, that’s fine. But some of us have moved on x let’s look forward
Some of 'us' might have moved on. But we can still only attract 10,000 fans for our first home game in the Championship following our first title win in 55 years. One of the reasons we finished up on skid row at 'Fer Ark'. Perhaps those staying away in protest at our empty shell of a club today should remind themselves of those days ? For the record I prefer to remember the glory days at Boothferry Park which I was fortunate to experience. Mainly the fantastic 1965/66 season when we attracted huge crowds and our ground was the envoy of many bigger clubs in the First Division.
Boothferry Park was for some years a great well-appointed stadium. But it was mainly cash or paper ticket and thus deeply flawed, and not a patch on the pigeon ****e-encrusted technological wonder we have now.
Really? It adds context and shows a breadth of experience and perspective, which younger may fans may lack.
Don't get me started on the state of the stairwells in East stand. We've spent 18 months washing and sanitising hands and now we're suppose to go back to gliding them over pigeon crap all over the handrails. GTF.
Don't think you exaggerating that every message I make harks back 30 years helps either, do you ? When someone calls our club an 'empty shell of a club' I think they need reminding why they are talking out of their backsides.
