Or stop interfering in other backyards. One of the stupidest was the "Arab spring" Somehow impossibly made lybia worse, put Muslim brotherhood in power briefly in Egypt, ruined Syria. Etc etc. Rise of ISIS. All for a photo op in Tripoli?
You've got a point. The difficulty arises with the interpretation of the word 'interfering'. Some would say how do you distinguish interfering from help? I'm not posing that as a question to be answered, just saying that some people don't see the difference.
anything that involves self interest and governments gaining influence is interfering, IMO. IF an NGO heads in to try help refugees etc thats one thing. IMO in general easy money = easy corruption. the afghan house of cards toppled all but instantly. It was set in train months before by trump signing deals with taliban that allowed them creep up on top of these small islands of air supported government controlled areas. The second biden took his support away they all collapsed. In the same way sanctions are used on north korea and iran for no reason bar hurting ordinary peoepl. they've done nothing but harden hearts and make the poor suffer.
I've been meaning to mention this for a while - has anyone heard anything from Astro? In the past when he's been active on here, I've pm'd him twice and never got a response so I haven't tried again. I hope he isn't ill.
Admit its for naked self interest and be done with it? stop pretending to care and just take all their resources and bully and threaten anyone that doesn't like it. OR just stop interfering and let the chinese grab all the influence they can. As for Afghanistan, just bomb it to the stone age every 5 or 6 years like the Israelis do with Lebanon any time anyone raises their heads slightly. that or leave them alone to find their way irrespective of what it means for women etc etc. Its their country. its 34 years since russia ran out of there. now the yanks have run out of there. we should stop trying to "solve" their problems.
I'm referring to how the world moves forward and attempts to minimise conflict. I don't have a clue either. In the past it was easier to turn a blind eye to the activities of far-flung nations, but not these days. It's a moral dilemma - how do you react to clear human rights abuses without "interfering"? For instance, how do we reconcile the denial of women's rights in some Islamic states with principles of non-interference with their culture? It's their tradition, so do we just accept that? And the persecution of minority groups - is it none of our business? And if we do start to stick our noses in, how can we be certain that our own code of ethics is the right one? Physical borders exist, but the internet is blurring the social and cultural boundaries - perhaps an ethical consensus will slowly develop from this, but it's not likely any time soon. Atm, the US is so steeped in its own sense of piety that it deems itself fit to police everyone else, but policing has to be by general consent to a legal framework and we don't have that. The world faces a lot of difficulties - best to just watch footie and forget about them.
He disappeared when it all went tits up. I expect he'll be back when we're walking the league this season.
He’s not accessed the site since Boxing Day. I assumed he was just keeping his head down during your bad run to start with, but now I’m not so sure. I hope he’s OK & just found another home for his offerings, but it seems out of character for him tbh.
Efforts have been made to try and maintain international harmony. The League of Nations was set up after WW1 in the hope of stopping another world war from ever happening. It ceased to exist in 1945 when the United Nations was founded. I'm left wondering what good the organisation actually does especially when you consider that Afghanistan is a member state. It seems to be a club and not much more.
This is the dilemma, who is to say the west is right and they are wrong. Multiple sides all believing they are correct, without the thought that they may be wrong. Just possibly a bit of mutual respect for other cultures or beliefs may help.
UNICEF WHO Etc Theres lots of good work.done in the un but let's ot pretend it is anything but the big boys telling the test what is what and a talking shop.at the top. The UN is at it's best a clean up crew. At its worst it does what it did in Bosnia. It clears landmines, vaccinated for polio, runs the nuclear non proliferation stuff, does treaties and hands out funds for development we dont see. Theres lots of things that justify keeping the thing rolling but not at the top. The security stuff is just the big boys playing politics.
I thought it was whilst we were losing so a bit later, if he stopped on boxing day then we were still top meaning he left on his own scored rather than being abused
he has had breaks before but this is a long one and with what has been going on its a tad worrying tbh
It is worrying. He's very private as well. I don't think he's ever given out any personal information so I don't know how old he is or if he lives alone or if there's anyone looking out for him. I don't think he's ever been away this long.
