Good Morning. It's Tuesday 17th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Winning start for the U23's Sean McGurk, Liam McCarron and Crysencio Summerville were all on target as Mark Jackson's starlets made a winning start to their Premier League 2 campaign at Selhurst Park last night. There were Leeds debut's for Klaesson, Bate, Miller and McGurk whilst long term absentee Adam Forshaw continued on the road to recovery with 60 minutes under his belt! Summerville opened the scoring for the Whites on seven minutes. Jenkins ball over the top was bought under control by the Dutchman and beat the keeper from the edge of the area! 5 minutes later Crystal Palace were level. Opening night jitters got the best of Klaesson who froze like a rabbit in the headlights as Jake O'Brien headed home unchallenged, from a corner. The home side were reduced to ten men on 18 minutes when Lewis Bate's goalward shot was handled on the line by David Boateng. Unfortunately Joe Gelhardt's tame spot kick was saved by the Palace keeper! Leeds had to wait twenty minutes from time to regain the lead. Drameh's cross found McCarron at the back post. Their lead was extended further just four minutes later. McGurk was on hand to hammer the ball into the back of the net after the Palace keeper could only clear the ball into his path. There was late Dramah when the Leeds right back bought down Omilabu in the area, and for the second time in the game, the ref pointed to the penalty spot!. Klaesson made amends for his earlier faux par with smart save diving to his right! Having been battered last weekend, many have expressed their concerns that urgent money needs to be invested in the squad! Leeds have a waiting list of backers all keen to invest in the Whites, but will Radrizzani want to sell another slice of the club? Where do the Whites need to improve? Which player(s) would you bring in? Is it sensible to buy O'Brien from Huddersfield? please log in to view this image Standing up to racism Could their be a better way to show support for Black Lives Matters, without 'taking the knee'? Many supporting the cause are happy to show their backing but believe the gesture is submissive or degrading, and are offended by it. We saw at the Euro's the Scots stood arm in arm to show their respect for BLM, and its catching on in the football league! Rangers, Bournemouth, QPR, Middlesbrough and now Derby would rather 'stand together united against racism'! Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha spoke out about his decision not to take a knee saying players "should stand tall", and that taking the knee is "degrading". "Growing up, my parents let me know I should be proud to be black. We should stand tall," "With taking a knee, sometimes people forget we have to do it. It is becoming something we just do. That is not enough for me." Do you agree with Wilfred Zaha that getting down on one knee is degrading? Would you support 'taking a stand against racism over taking the knee? please log in to view this image
I get the investment bit, but how much could we actually spend under FFP rules even if money was pumped into the club? Isn't FFP based on turnover?
I can only assume if we’re concerned about FFP then it’s the three rolling years hindering us. The two previous seasons with loans and commit to buy options were quite large investment periods, specially when you throw in the U23s. In this time have we actually sold a player for cash?
No but we could get a tenner for costa and maybe a bit more for Roberts. Joking aside what a poor window this has been.
I did not watch the u23s but saw short highlights. Imagine my shock at seeing summerville for the first time. He is not scottish or drip white with red hair... Well i never i will go to the top of our stairs.
Forget FFFP as we lost £47m last season due to covid and easily provable. Spurs lost £80m for the same reason but a bigger stadium and overhead. Rules are being relaxed and in reality that means not enforced, as can be seen by the wendies and Derby decisions. FFFP isnt been enforced anywhere in Europe except La Liga but only on wage ratios to turnover. Lots of commentators talking about our kids and it seems the only one so far who is an academy product getting rave reviews is Jack Jenkins. The new kids from last summer are all flying high but Joffy was a bit ring rusty last night due hardly playing and injury. Greenwood, Drameh and Summerville doing really well. It was nice to see Joffys reaction when his mate McGurk scored and the kid looks promising. Lewis Bate played at 10 and then at 4 and looked good, Amari Miller had a couple of high-points including an assist and Klaesson pulled off some saves. Looking likely that Poveda is on his way out as he may have upset someone behind the scenes. He wast on the bench at scum and wasnt with the 23s last night and he isnt injured. He may have not progressed enough for Bielsa or he is in the dog house. Niall Huggins is also on his way out with a few offers already received and I expect more to be moved on within days because they are training seperatley
Was reading Leeds Live reviews, Bate got a pretty poor one, not concerning, just saying they felt he was well out of sorts at 10. Drameh and Jenkins they were wetting their pants over
Different on line posts vary as Bate gets more rave reviews for his No10 play and had a nailed on goal handled on the line etc. But it was the first time I have seen hardly any mention of Joffy except his penalty miss. So that shows he was only average and I havent seen that before. Miller got an assist but so far he isnt as good as Summerville. Cresswell is another that usually has stand out games but subbed off at half time. The big story though really is that this group are going to be the best group ever, just hope we can compete with Spurs, Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea etc
Thought Bate played pretty well considering it was his first game for us. The usual question when watching the U23's is who looks ready to challenge for the 1st team ? I'd say only Drameh and Geldhart (when match fit) and possibly Summerville as it stands, obviously you never really know until it happens.
I've no problem with anyone leaving as long as the price is right. For Phillips that has to be in excess of £60 million.
Is anyone worried about the Everton game on Saturday The **** will hit the fan if Gylfi Sigurdsson gets his hands on Junior
Phillips is a tricky one, his roll in a Bielsa Leeds team is probably the most critical. In any other team it’s not as important. Very hard to put a value on him.
I'd agree but for a 25yo England International, I'd want closer to 3 figures! We could bring in some real quality!
Thats a good shout and probably why we get linked to top midfielders like De Paul and Nandez, simply because they can play top level 8 or 10 but also top level Phillips, Kantetype DM roles. We are always struggling when Phillips isnt playing and stats prove it.mwe will also lose Phillips more this season as he gets more England calls, so liable to injury and he will also get suspended again.
The thing is if we want to grow like Leicester we simply have to sell players when their value is at the highest. Agreed that Phillips seems irreplaceable but sometimes you just have to find a different type of player and adjust your style accordingly. Maybe this is why Bielsa is putting so much time and effort into getting Forshaw fit ?
