OK, thread subject then. Watched their game against Derby on the box. Apart from the exciting finish, in all honesty a poor advert for the Championship in terms of quality - this division currently has a huge gap in that from top to bottom.

No disrespect to Peterborough, but they only just won the game at the death against a Derby side that must be the worst in the division. Rooney's "Premier" style tactics with the everyday players he has at his disposal are going to take them down. Whatever, they're for later, it's Peterborough we're concerned with right now.

Quick thoughts are that they are slow at the back and live off enthusiasm further forward rather than skill. Clarke-Harris puts himself about and Marriott buzzes around but looks unfit and overweight. The bigger threat is from the youngsters like Dembele who will run at our back line.

For what it's worth, Giles could have a field day down either side. Throught the middle, depending upon who Mick rests, Pack, Ralls or Vaulks should have enough. Wintle will know them from last season in League One, but then again, they will know him so best he's left on the bench - I don't think he's ready to fit in yet anyway.

With McGuinness and Brown apparently crocked at the moment, the back 3 must go again. Sang and Tom Davies could get a game either side, but Ng and Bagan are young and fit enough to retain the back 5 as against Blackpool.

Up front? Moore is the obvious starter and it wouldn't surprise me if Watkins didn't get some game time as well.

With games coming thick and fast, Mick needs to continually tweak the team not wait for 5 games and make wholesale changes. Certainly in the high intensity positions, wing backs, wide players and strikers.
If Peterborough are that poor, is this the game to change a few players.
Certainly some early changes off the bench. Harris, Murphy, Watkin, Collwill.
It'll be a test of MMs approach to the season and how the squad works in rotation.
The easy option is to go with the team from the weekend.

I was most surprised watching saturdays game how offensive City were. Maybe that’s partly down to how ineffective Blackpool were.

IMO we shouldn’t get carried away given how City’s experience and strength overpowered a timid opposition. Posh looked to have more to them than Blackpool and so I expect a sterner test but it’ll be the likes of eg Saturdays opponents who may give us more of a clue how we’re going to get on over the season.

I worry about Mick saying in the media recently that a point away from home is a good result in this division. It might well be true, but it's only good if you can win your home games - against Barnsley we copped out at the death and threw away 2 points.

We need to go to Peterborough to win the game not get a point, because that Millwall game you refer to on Saturday will be tough - they can get a point (at least) on anybody's patch as we've found to our cost in the past. Win the games you can wherever they are - no disrespect, but Peterborough tomorrow is one of those.

Only one previous Championship outing, Preston 0 Luton 1. Not exactly a high stakes game.

Lots of League 1 and 2 stuff since earning his spurs in 2016/7. How will he get on with Ferguson giving him a bashing in one ear and MM in the other?

Hope he lets the game flow with the new instructions the refs are working under like Anthony Taylor did in that Man City/Spurs game yesterday - pleasure to watch a game without petty fouls being given to ruin it.

Wasn't it Posh that ended our run of 11 straight wins at the start of our promotion season under Malky? (Think it was 11 straight home wins??)
Also think Posh were bottom and winless at the time.

    So typically City.... <doh>

Clingon, OS wants this thread to be about football, so none of your nonsense pal, now as Bob Dylan famously said “poop or get off the potty!” :emoticon-0103-cool: Dylan said that....according to Aber!
