Big rumour that #QPR are buying up the American golf course at Sunbury-on- Thames to become the new training ground

    QPR identify new training base

    Tue, 18 Oct 13:29:59 2011

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has pledged to improve facilities at the club and revealed he has found a potential site for a new training ground.

The Malaysian business tycoon's takeover of the club in late August provided the financial clout for manager Neil Warnock to sign six new players in the last week of trading. Fernandes has also been looking to improve off the field performance and believes he has found a suitable venue for a new training ground.

"We have made some good decisions in terms of training facilities," he told Press Association Sport. "It is something I need to take to the board. We need better facilities and I think we have found somewhere."

Fernandes' comments echo that of QPR chief executive officer Philip Beard, who recently revealed to Press Association Sport that the club may move away from their Harlington training base in order to raise standards to "Premier League level".

Rangers have trained in Harlington for six years after taking over the lease of the Imperial College-owned site from Chelsea when they moved to a £20million complex at Cobham.

"I think we have got to look at ourselves as a Premier League club," Beard said.

"Hopefully for the foreseeable future that is the case and because of that I think we have to look at the facilities and everything we do at the club.

"The reality is that the playing squad spend most of their time at the training facility and at the moment we rent Harlington, which isn't as good as a lot of other Premier League facilities.

"We're looking at everything at the club and my aim is to look across at other Premier League clubs and feel we are comparable in all aspects of the business.

"Both on the pitch and off the pitch, a club that can match most other clubs in the Premier League."

Fair enough, and Sunbury is close enough to Richmond for Neil to get there on his bike.

I know for a fact they have been enquiring about Warren Farm in Hanwell very recently.

They haven't decided on a location yet

I hope this does not mean we will miss out on White City/BBC. I thought if they bought that land they could have Stadium and Training facilities next to each other.
I hope this is not some plan to take us out west and let Chels##t move in our manor.

Whether the club had agreed it or not at the time I can say for sure they have now decided and they have chosen Warren Farm in Hanwell.

    Good news for the club!!

They're big enough to put up with that. (Behave yourself or Barton might insist that you move.)
