I thought it was funny that they'd all nicked Afghan army, modern guns, except the midget. He's still stuck with his Soviet-era AK that's probably about twice as old as he is!
My eye was caught by the tall bloke with the bum fluff on the left. He looks like something out of Four Lions I was watching the Al Jazeera video I posted on the previous page and was really hoping at some point, one of the palace servants dressed in suit and gloves walked in with a silver tray of tea and sandwiches and set them down on the table in front of them. I love surreal **** like that
Tragic scenes watching women and kids scrambling to leave Kabul. Like Saigon when the yanks pulled out of Vietnam
No mate, let's get it right, men selfishly boarding any part of a plane possible, in the place of kids. There was a military plane moving and every single person running around it was an adult male.
Must admit mate, if I ever get desperate like that. I hope I don't just leave the women behind that I love so I can be safe. Middle Eastern men seem to be the biggest cowards on the planet, imho.
I've got no sympathy for the men, there was plenty of weaponary for them to use to stop the advance. To give time for their women and children to get away. But no, they ran like cowards, and we are now expected to put our own nationals at risk to do what those cowards wouldn't. If my kids or grandkids were at risk, it would be my place to stay and protect their getaway. It's the basic rules of war mate. Like a sinking ship, kids and mums first in the lifeboat.
I saw the footage of men trying to clamber onto that US airforce plane. I can’t speak for them, other than that I know they are desperate. I’d hope they weren’t doing that and leaving their wives and kids behind, I dunno. Maybe they were young unmarried men ? Maybe they were just reacting in an opportunistic way given the fear and panic ? It’s hard to tell what’s going on really, but yeah, you’d hope that they’d put their women and children first.
Exactly this. They should be on the front line protecting their family getaway, not clinging on to a plane like spiderman.
Imagine mate, some mum in this country, has to watch her son go rescue them. While on TV, that same mum is watching the Afghan men runaway. If her son dies as a result she would have every reason to think the Afghan men are nowt but cowards.
I get all of that. I just think in the heat of the moment, driven by fear and panic. People do spontaneous things. We’re only seeing snippets of what’s happening out there. There’s probably loads of men who are trying to get their kids to safety before their own welfare. The whole situation is ****ing tragic. Always the innocents who get caught up in the ****housery of men with guns.
I'm old school so stand by what I say. I expect them men to be protecting the women and children, I'm not going to have my mind driven by some narratives put out by journalists. There were no men stopping the advance, the Taliban went across the country into Kabul in days, it should have taken them two to three months, with the training and the weaponary the Afghans were given. That's why it's caught everyone by surprise, that's why the women and kids are now in a panic situation, because the Afghan men rolled over, to have their tummy's tickled by the Taliban.
You have to question the Afghan security forces. They’ve just fled their posts by the looks of things.
They're not going there to rescue them. They haven't been since beginning of August. The only people any mum's son will is going out to rescue is UK Nationals.
Sorry mate, yeah I thought that was the case, I was just uncertain if it entailed any other rescue attempts.
This is what's happened. The Afghan factions in the country e.g. the pashtuns, northern alliance etc and militants will have just seen which way the wind is blowing and stepped aside. This is what will happen next. Those very same factions, all of who hate the Taliban will then re-group, arm and then there'll be an almighty ****storm coming. It's the equivalent of an Ali rope-a-dope. It's wrong to think there was ever going to be some immediate resistance as the Taliban advance. That's not how it's done in Afghhanistan, never has been, whether it was the Russians, the Americans or whoever, and never will be. The Taliban know this also and will be expecting the fighting to start later.
My subjective opinion on what happened. President Biden had a security briefing, on withdrawing troops. The security briefing said the Afghans will now take over, armed and ready. Biden wanted worse case scenario if the Taliban advanced. He was told two to three months, on entry into Kabul, where 4 million people live, I did hear a figure 6 million, so for argument sake we'll say 4-6M. However, within days the Afghans have rolled over, hence now the panic situation we are in.
