  1. For most of the match until the last 10 minutes or so,and the ludicrous 7 minutes of added time, I didn't feel we were under any real pressure.I thought they weren't up to much....they overhit passes quite a lot and they had several players who failed to control the ball with the first touch. However,as I've said,we sat far too deep for the last 15 mins or so and invited them on to us,which I think is really dangerous. To say they were miles better and we didn't deserve to win is complete nonsense in my view. The penalty was piss poor.....it wasn't very firmly struck, and it wasn't into the corner enough, their goalie was on his way to that side before the ball left Gooch's foot, and blocked it quite easily. As McGeady proved, you have to hit the ball cleanly and hard, which Gooch certainly didn't do.
However,as with the mistake for their goal,we got away with it and overall we deserved the win.
Once the new players have had a chance to settle in,I think we'll be a force in this league this year. We have a lot more creativity in the side, which, with a settled defence, will see us right this season.

mcgeady’s last weekend was nowhere near the corner thoug, I think it was going no quicker than Gooch’s either!! I don’t think a player should ever change their mind last second. Eye on the ball, make your mind up and hit it. If the keeper goes the other way is it still a piss poor penalty?? That’s my point. Gooch was outdone by the keeper. Mcgeady’s wasn’t.
I’m firmly in the strikers union on this. 99% of penalties down the middle go in because keepers dive. But if they don’t, then it looks an awful penalty. Yet it’s essentially no worse than any other penalty which goes in the same place.

  3. Well,I don't want to get into an argument with you about it. I was right behind the goal...to me he didn't get a good enough strike on it and it wasn't directed into the corner enough. As I've said,it seemed to me that the keeper was already on his way down to that side before Gooch kicked it.
There have been many examples of penalties over the years which have been hit a lot more softly and simply rolled into a vacant corner or chipped over a diving keeper. If Gooch is not going to hit it hard,or try to deceive the keeper a la McGeady,he has to be more accurate into the corner than that.

It’s just strikers union mate. Not arguing just my point of view. If the keeper went the other way would it still be a rubbish penalty? Would mcgeady’s have been a rubbish penalty if it’d been saved? That’s the point. There is never a reason to miss the target with a penalty, you hit the target, the keeper saves, well done keeper for me.

  5. Sorry mate,we'll have to beg to differ on this. If it's a well struck penalty,on target, and the goalie saves it,it's still a good penalty and well done to the goalie.
But,if you roll the ball with a poorly hit and poorly directed penalty,on target but into an area where a diving goalie can quickly get his body,it's a poor penalty imo.
Merely getting it on target, isn't enough.
