Not as far as the players are concerned no. If you played a part in a successful team would you think winning was hollow?
I completely agree and I wasn't being critical. Just pointing out that playing well isn't a guarantee of success. In most close matches both teams have chances to win. If we miss ours that's down to lack of quality from us. If they miss theirs that's usually down to lack of quality from them. It isn’t in our control. We restricted them to very few good chances which was down to our good play but they had xG of nearly 2 against our 1. Agree that Lucas and Bergwijn did well for the goal but they didn't have much of a choice in the positions they found themselves. If Bergwijn has a choice of passes he almost always tries the harder one and mucks it up.
Your comment demands a reply, here's mine. The players are paid handsomely to entertain the fans, they are entertainers. There performance comes from their skill to kick a ball, they are not paid to be philosophers or on the basis of their intellect. Their duty is to try to win games for the team that employs them. Other perceived duties like being a role model are laid upon them but that may or may not be part of their contract. The perception that playing for a team like City produces hollow victories is a view fans may have, what the players think is not relevant they should just shut up and kick the ball and while I am on the subject, players don't deserve trophies they have to win them. Kane had 4 opportunities to win trophies at Spurs he produced nothing when it mattered. His brains reside in his feet when was the last time you went to hear the opinion of a pair of feet?
They look a bit like trophies? Could it be this sort of trophy after all? please log in to view this image
I think I said it before, but I take pride in being a repetitive, boring mofo, so I will say it again. IF Kane is only going to win trophies and is frustrated that we want £150m-£160m and aren't accepting city's offer of £100m, the answer is simple. Kane has "earned" £200 000 per week for 3 years. That's £30m. He was reportedly on £90 000 per week for the previous 2 years. That's another £9m. So in the last 5 years he has been paid £39m. That doesn't include any of his commercial or sponsorship income. Surely he can tell City that he won't accept the £400 000 per week they reported offered him. Instead he will stick to the current £200 000 per week. That would make a saving of £10m per year. That is £50m over the length of his 5 year contract. City could then use this to make up the transfer fee to the £150m we want. Wonder why he won't do that?
just catching up with MOTD2 from last night. FFS..that black and white VT about Harry Kane to introduce the show/start of our highlights. Pathetic
I don’t blame or begrudge Kane for wanting the City move, I was expecting last season to be his last with us and ultimately a (likely) league title medal along with numerous cups will appeal to any player if given the chance regardless of who they win it with, I think if you asked Kyle Walker if he made the right choice or not he’ll tell you he absolutely did but ultimately a player should never mess their current club about. I still don’t want Kane to go because I think we’ll be a lot weaker for it and also find it almost impossible to replace - especially with just a couple weeks to go - as he can still guarantee us 25+ goals this season (injuries permitting) but there’s no doubt he’s put a real dent on his Spurs career/ legacy and the reaction from us in the crowd yesterday spoke volumes. If the move definitely doesn’t happen he’ll have to work twice as hard if he wants to regain the fan’s appreciation again, Modric somewhat done so when he didn’t get his Chelsea move and I think Kane will have to follow suit.
Exactly this. It's not the 'why' he wants to move, it's the 'how' he's going about it. Do I think City is the right club for him? No. And choosing them certainly devalues Kane in my eyes at least. But ultimately he signed a contract and if he doesn't like the fact the club is holding him to it then he can always buy himself out if it....
I wish he had enough respect for us like Eriksen/ Dembele did and not leave us for another English side but I think with Shearer’s record in his sights he was always gonna prefer to stay in England for the foreseeable future and so City makes the most sense from that aspect I guess, Chelsea is the 2nd best side at the moment I’d say but that move is an absolute no-no for obvious reasons, Liverpool won’t have the money to buy him and he’s too good for Utd in my opinion, I said on the Prem board they’ve got some great individual quality but I don’t think they’re as good a team as City/ Chelsea, plus they don’t have a top manager either which I think could hold them back when in the crunch. As for buying out his contract, I hope he don’t as we miss out on a windfall then!
I'd just like to mention one player who didn't have a good game, having just watched the MOTD2 clip. Hugo Lloris barely did anything, made a couple of mistakes and his distribution wasn't great, either. He's had an injury and not much rest this summer, so I'm not that concerned by it. Why did I bring it up, then? I think it highlights how toothless City were without De Bruyne. They vaguely threatened a couple of times after he was introduced. I don't think he had a save to make before that, though. Maybe one serious one all game?
Pass map time please log in to view this image On the face of it, that should look appalling given we're so focused on our right flank that Hojbjerg's drifting out there while Bergwijn, Reguilon and Dele all look isolated on the left, and Reguilon being so high up the pitch should be asking for bad things to happen to us However, it makes an awful lot more sense when you look at the Mansourites' pass map please log in to view this image They were looking to attack us down our right flank, which was a habitual weakness for us in the past couple of seasons, but instead of having acres of space due to Aurier being so high up the pitch and either a CM or CB (or both) drifting into the space to cover instead they came up against a wall with "Tanganga" written on it, and once Tanganga pocketed Sterling or Grealish for the umpteenth time he moved the ball onto Lucas or Hojbjerg and we were attacking them down that flank where they'd overcommitted And it has to be said, look at the slugs on our right flank: for the past two seasons we're used to it looking like the Bermuda Triangle, which was as much the fault of Lucas, Bale and Lamela as it was Aurier, but instead we see Tanganga spraying passes to Hojbjerg, Lucas and Son with reliable efficiency meaning that, once we'd settled into the game, we were getting at them quickly and not by hoofing it up to Son and hoping for the best, but because tanganga had three out balls available to him and was finding them So there we have it: the Bald Fraud is so good at his homework he thought he was playing the 2020-21 season Spurs, and played right into our hands
They don't say this stuff to loudly when it's us do they? I'm gonna say this now just incase I'm proven correct and can say I told you so. If we manage to keep Kane, we are in line for a very good season. I reckon the best since Pochettino's height. The energy is finally correct. I also think that, controversially, if we keep Kane I see us possibly doing better than City in the PL. Yeah I said it! (Of course it would depend on some great players coming in… ) Without Kane I don't see them, City, doing better than Chelsea, Liverpool or Man U this season. So, if they ain't gonna win the CL, PSG must be the favourites now if Chelsea don't retain it, and they ain't winning the league………. Basically, I'd love to see Levy be a big part of messing up another teams plans for a change. It makes absolutely NO SENSE to sell Kane to Man City this summer. Let us improve on last season, which we will, and see what Kane wants to do when we have more opportunities to win trophies ourselves.
I think Kane will be a disruptive influence in the dressing room, if he stays and it's no coincidence that the rest of the team tends to step up and play better collectively when he's not there. What the Jonah has clearly missed is that MCFC don't value him that highly and that, even after losing Aguero, still didn't prioritise him over Grealish (who has already been given the No.10 shirt). He's far too dim to see the level of disrespect that MCFC have sent his way and is venting his frustration in the wrong direction.
I hope (and believe?) your first point won't happen. He doesn't strike me as likely to be disruptive, I don't think he has that in his personality. Also, despite everything, I am sure he loves the club. Not enough to risk going trophy-less.
I think his disruptive influence will stem just from the fact that he want's away. His presence reminds the team that he doesn't think they are good enough to win stuff. I don't think he will disrupt in a deliberate manner but this will be the effect if he stays. He is a fantastic player but he does not equal a team. The team is ALWAYS more important no matter how good the individual is. The proof of this is very clear in Spurs recent history when we lost Bale and Modric we became a better team. Not because they went, because the team has to adjust to being independent and rely on itself rather than jus Bale or Kane in current times. I would much rather have a team of really good players than a team of good players with a stand out individual. The underdogs win because of their togetherness. Iceland, Denmark, Greece in Euro competition are good examples. Malmo and Notts Forest in club Euro competition.
Plenty of players have done what Kane has done (or worse) and ended up staying at their clubs, where they continued an excellent career. Rooney and Gerrard both handed in transfer requests, their moves did not happen and they carried on being great players, Kane will be no different. Whether the team plays better when he is not there is open for debate, but what I do know is, Kane would almost certainly have buried that Bergwjin chance and made the victory more comfortable. Harry Kane wants guaranteed medals, he has had the agenda driven media reminding him he has won nothing, and telling him he needs to leave Spurs for years. Up to recently, Kane has believed in the Spurs project and I am sure he would rather win medals with Spurs than any other club, but ultimately he has been failed by Levy and ENIC, they have not matched his ambition and given Spurs a team capable of winning silverware. Levy must be loving how this is playing out, as the fans turn on Kane and vent their anger at him instead of ENIC. Levy can now sell Kane, knowing the fans will blame the player and not him, but this situation would never have arisen if ENIC had any real ambition to win silverware.
We don't know if Kane went to the dressing room or not and most likely his last thought would be " oh must put this on twitter "
